jumpy EGT

My newly installed EGT gauge was working like a beaut... but then the needle started jumping around and giving inaccurate readings. Ill have to get in there tomorrow and double check the wiring and all, but first I figured I'd post and see if anyone else had experienced similar problems. Thanks. BTW its an Autometer Z-Series.

Sounds like a wiring problem to me.

Most likely it's a electrical problem. Check all the wiring. Sometimes the fitting on the probe/manifold will rust and not give proper ground power.

What type of probe are you using for it? Probe that came with it or a TRE probe?

Is it jumping around the entire gauge, like an amount that you know its wrong or is it jumpy when you accelerate?

First off I'd say that its a problem with the wiring if its jumping around an amount you know that its wrong but if it does it when you accelerate and acts "jumpy" when you accelerate then you could be out of tune if you see spikes in temps.

It worked well for an hour or so, then it started to sit at about 800-1000F instead of 1250F where it was before cruising. Also it will jump around ~200F 100x a sec when accelerating (and I know thats not my exhaust temp spiking) and at constant trottle sometimes but stays strait when idling. My wiring is really well done (well Id like to think so), so maybe it is just a bad probe to begin with (even tho its brand new)? What is that TRE probe, as mentioned above? Thanks guys.

Yea I had the same problem once, ended up being a loose wire.
