Jumpy Tachometer

So my car's tach is jumping, the Speedo reads fine, but the tach jumps from 1k to 5 until the car passes 5k in revs.

It's not making much sense to me, maybe a crossed up ground? Or a faulty wire in the cluster? Could anyone help shed some light on this.

Check to make sure the connector is still fully attached to the Ignition Control Module (black box between valve cover and intake manifold). Your tachometer gets it's signal from there. If it's still attached, get a pinout of the ICM and take it to Advanced Auto Parts so they can test it.

The tach in the 1G is mechanically operated. When i first read the title i thought it might be the spring that bounces the needle up and down. But you should take it apart to check for any anomalies

My car's a 2G, so I'll have to check the ICM.
