J-B weld transmission?

hey guys i was leaving work and turned on the highway and didn't notice steel plates in the road, my car is lowered 2 inches on stock 16' rims so i bottomed out and believe to had ripped a hole in the tranny. but i had talked to my buddy and he explained he had this problem once and he j-b welded the hole and was able to temporarily drive it to get it fixed. the car needs to be smog'ed and its just sitting in the front of my house. i don't believe it's cracked just a hole chunked out, it would be only temporarily like i said but i would it be a good idea?

if you JB weld your tranny... its not going to come off without a razor blade so hope it would be in a good spot to get rid of all that when you did want to fix it. i was going to JB weld my oil pan at the drain tube because i had a leak but i ended up tapping new holes, still leaks just not nearly as bad. what else can you do though? and how do you plan on fixing it for the long term. if you just need t oget it to a shop id tow it.

Sounds like a locked up transmission waiting to happen. It might hold, it might come out and you lose all your transmission fluid. The best bet would be to pull it and have it welded (if repairable) or replace the damaged case with a good one.

The best idea would be to flatbed the car from the plate of metal in the street where this happened, directly to a DSM specific transmission shop. Most of them sell used transmission case parts for $20-$80 depending what section you need.

Driving it home like that without fluid will waste your entire transmission, J/B welding it is just stupid, and the busted chunk that's probably rolling around inside the transmission will come back to bite you in the ass.

+ JB weld needs 24 hours to cure, your not gonna be driving that car on a freshly JB welded anything... its just not a good idea all togeher if its where your tranny fluid is.

JB welding a transmission sounds... legit.

Take it to a machine shop and have them weld up a hunk to cover the hole, if you'd like to do it like that. Despite any other damaged that may have occurred - I'd recommend this over JB welding anything to do with your transmission...

I had almost the same exact problem about 2 weeks ago. Guess what i did..... I J-B welded it. Needless to say 2 days later i was rippin the transmission out of the car. Just dont do it. Do it right and just save yourself the time... Unlike i did. Lol.

I did this to a Honda in High School. FWIW it worked great, but that car cost 150 bucks and it didn't really matter. I would not recommend taking this route repairing it. In this day and age it's just overly janky. Is it leaking fluid/empty now? If it is quit driving and have it towed
