I've just been struck by cankwalk!

I bought this car almost 4 years ago as a project car, nearly everything you can think of has been replaced. (except the engine and tranny itselfs)

Why I think I have crankwalk: I was driving to my parents house, which is an hour drive on the highway. once I started hitting stops and stop lights, trouble peeked its head!

Once I start taking off, in EVERY gear, it'll be ok till like 2.5g rpms then from there its like they disengage for a few seconds. kinda like when your clutch starts slipping, only on every gear! once it disengages the rpms start climbing like if Im reving, and the car feels like if I put it in nutral.....

THis can't be my clutch, because I've had my clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, flywheel, ball joint screw, clutch slave, and master cylinder, have ALL been replaced thess than 2,000 miles ago!

I thought crankwalk had already died out.... I guess mine just hadn't been driven enough to show itself yet :sosad:

Why would crank walk make his rpms shoot up and have the symptoms of a bad clutch????

As far as I knowed, crank walk only ruins bearings and possibly a sensor on a 2g no?

I take that back, crank walk is because of bad bearings ;)

i saw in your profile that you have a XtD clutch, i had one of those on my spyder and the disk springs broke off, and it had less than 2k miles... If i were you i would look into the clutch and make sure its fine.

This sounds like a clutch install gone wrong or a defective clutch. Shit happens. Pull it apart, inspect the clutch, and please research more before helping to spread crankwalk misconceptions. It's already blown out of proportion enough.

And we wonder how the idiots of the world came to the conclusion that crankwalk is so common on DSMs? Here is your answer, another know-nothing who immediately just *thinks* that he has crankwalk, without ever checking the play or checking to see if his symptoms match the supposed cause.

Why is this thread still open?

Yea, this thread is a prime example of it. My clutch is slipping so I must have crankwalk! Google "bad thrust bearing" sometime and check out how many other cars pop up including Hondas.

You guys didn't read the topic. He doesn't think he has crankwalk. He thinks it's cankwalk. Personally, I think all of the symptoms are pointing to it.

:D

OP: Like stated above, this sounds very clutch related and almost nothing like crankwalk.

I had crankwalk before on more than one occasion and that does not sound like a crankwalk symptom.

Check for play on the crankshaft pulley/damper by bulling/pushing, if it moves too much you'll have to take the oil pan off and check the clearance between the main bearing thrust walls to see if it's within specs.

Another way to tell is if when making a left turn and your clutch pedal feels like it suddenly lost all pressure for a few seconds, but to be sure you'll have to take the oil pan off and inspect for clearance and to see if there are any metal shavings laying on the oil pan itself. I don't think it's crankwalk. I'm with the rest of the guys here, possibly a clutch failure/ slipping

I am experiencing the same as you right now. but it only happens when I abuse the car for a few good launches. It feels like the clutch is slipping, revs go up and the car doesn't move any faster. It goes away after a few days. I'm pretty sure it's my clutch slipping but I haven't gotten around to changing it.

Hope this helps you! Good Luck!

From now on can we just define crankwalk as any undiagnosed DSM issue? ROFL

Then why check for crankwalk? Now, what you should check on is why your spell-check doesn't work. :p Sorry, I had to.

You all need to back off, he does all he can with his handicaps.

Keep up the good work Bobby :thumb:

J/K, it sounds like a clutch problem. Sometimes they just fail even with 2,000 miles.

Sounds like a bad pressure plate or disc. Doesnt sound much like crankwalk. LOL@the bashing...poor guy give him a break! haha Either way...its not good to assume that just cause you have a 2g your car is gonna crank walk. My buddies thought the same with their 2g and I almost slapped them for talking about it so much :)

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I posted. ^Spell check complete.:p

I was just giving him a few tips for him to check or look for before assuming it’s crankwalk. :thumb:

Damn, damn. 14 people and 2 guest viewing this thread. DSMtuners is hot tonight LOL
OP, if you not busy... more like me cause I work crazy hours. Bring it by. I don't mind checking it out. You can't really say crankwalk until you measure it.
Calm down now people. No need to head this thread to a wrong direction.

Wow I can't believe the amount of bashing I'm getting for saying I have crankwalk? LOL

ok umm fine let me go ahead and throw on some OTHER things on top of that. After making sharp turns, not matter how far down on the clutch I push (literally petal to the metal) my gears do NOT want to go in, and the only way to get them in is to force the dam thing in and grind the hell out of it. won't adjust itself till another sharp turn comes along.... annnnnd the reason I changed my entire clutch kit was because I kept having to put the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to get gears in without grinding.

I've taken it to 2 shops, the 1st one installed the clutch, pressure plate, push out bearing, push rod, ball-joint for the fork, and the ultra light flywheel....

my clutch would still "slip" and I still had to floor the clutch petal to get anything in.

Then I took it to the 2nd shop to get the clutch slave and master cylinder replaced. when I got it back they told me that they checked the clutch work and it looked good, that if anything I may just need a new tranny soon cause my syncrose aint looking too good.

But I'll take it again to a different shop to get the clutch install checked out again. Or if there happens to be any dsm experts in the central valley area that can save me cash on labor, please hit me up, this thing gets work done like every other week and it's NOT cheap!

Yeah I had a friend who's car got scratched, and another who lost power steering. Both victims of crankwalk!

Seriously thought, remove the clutch and inspect it before as quoted from Office Space, "Jumping to conclusions"

dude please tell me your kidding about the power steering, mine went out a month ago, just got it repaired last week, and its already goin AGAIN :ohdamn:

Measure your crank end play if its excessive then the engine walked. The only symptom I experienced with my clutch when walking was my clutch losing pressure when making a left turn. For the millionth time do research before throwing crankwalk out there :p
