Alright so my car was doing ok, I had a big hole in my exhaust manifold that wasnt letting me boost but it still drove and i was still going to replace it. Then the other day i was driving it and it died on me, but started back up and got me a ways and died again. So I looked into it and I took out the spark plugs and the plug in cylinder 2, and the bottom 1/8th of the spark plug was gone. So I figured this was my problem. I pulled off the head and looked in the piston and what should I find but parts of a spark plug as well as the flat end part of a valve buried in the piston (Which also has a big hole in it now) Surprisingly the cylinder wall is not marred though and I have an extra piston and valves around, so would it be good to put that in and just go with it, or would that be a big waste of time? Also what could have caused this to happen? Thanks for your time everybody.

The car is pretty much bone stock it has the big 16g turbo, but other than that it is how you would have gotten it in 1990. Would running lean have caused this? I was also getting a little bit of lifter tick before all the spark plug and valve destruction occurred.

Running a 16g on a stock fuel system would cause you to run lean. It flows plenty more air then the stock 14b even at stock boost levels. You were probably getting crazy knock and some detenation. Lifter tick is very common and most people just pick up revised (3g) lifters to remedy this..

Well the car never had this problem before and it has been running like this for some years. The car is manual, and I had the NGK plugs. I didnt do any tunning or anything with it.
