So i go out today finally off work, jack up my car and throw it on some jack stands, and go to town on taking off the front bumper...
1st bolt....snap!!! OK I'm fine with that.
2nd bolt...snap!!! wtf
3rd OK.
4th OK.
To make this shorter i broke 5 bolts and only got 2 out and that b***h is still stuck on there because the two bolts under the headlight are rusted shut.

Any one have any ideas on how to finish taking off the bumper easily or anyone around here wanna give me a hand. Heck i would even pay for some help!!!

Sea foam makes a penetrating lubricant called deep creep, ten times better than pb blaster. Sounds like your gonna have fun e z outting and or drilling.... Good luck

Yea i did the PB and wd40 for the hell of it on those before i started and yet still didn't help ( i should of posted that i soaked them sorry) As for the bolts they just snapped on the first turn. Didn't even get a thread out when the bolt head popped.

I'd say that sounds about right...those bastards that hold the bumper on always break, no matter how much you soak them with penetrating oil. I think I only have 3 of the 5 top ones holding mine on.

I have some oil they use to lubricate guns with when they restore them. I'll have to ask my father what it is called. We had no pressure in the can anymore so we drilled a hole and poured it into a reusable spray bottle that you pressurize via air compressor.

Needless to say I don't remember what it is called.

I went to pull my front caliper off and the bold would not budge. I applied a squirt of the lube. Tightened it and it backed out as if it were new and my ratchet had power steering :thumb:

lets put it this way i did a FMIC in 2001 on my 97 spyder that came from florida and still has 0 rust to this day never mind when the car was 4 years old and i also broke 3 out of the 5 top bolts. in my opinion i would drill them and install new stainless bolts.

I've had two different front clips on my Talon and neither one had intact tabs under the headlights. The material is very easy to cut thru. I just cut it with a one of those disposable cluck type utility knives. Cut it as far back under the headlight as the blade will read so the tab still supports the front clip. Even after cutting they still fit great. Nice n snug. I broke off both bolts on both sides in the inner fenderwell. Drilled a new hole thru the front clip and the fender and ziptied it. Help up for years til I got bored and drilled n tapped the old original holes.

It looks like I'm going to do a easy out on as many bolt spots as i can. Also i really like the zip-tie idea. I'm putting in a FMIC so that would make it easier to get to after I'm done.

Bad news is while working on the car last night I accidentally dropped the floor jack on my foot, i was moving it from my shed to where the car was at and it slipped :ohdamn:. Long story short it looks like I might of broken my foot. Down side is no insurance...so i wont know for sure if it is or not, but as of right now I can not walk on it. So it might be a little while before I'm back to my project. DSM CURSE IS REAL PEOPLE!!! haha

Those small bolts that hold bumpers on are easily drillable. They are a very soft grade of metal. That is, if you used the correct bolts, and not a higher grade.

Ill never wear open toe shoes in a shop trust me ha ha. I had on my Nike 5.0 (skate shoes) on. Even if i had boots on it would of been just as bad. Hit right below the ankle above the arch. Ill prob just sleep and stay off it for about 2 days. I walk on it just enough to keep it from locking up. Thanks for wishing me the best everyone.:thumb:

I worked in a grocery warehouse and I had steel toe boots on. We were picking a 3000 lb pallet of cheese that was on a stand up tow motor (10000 lb w. battery.) It had solid plastic tires. The one wheel ran my foot over up over my arch almost at my leg. It felt pretty bad, but surprisingly not broken! I should have told them the kid who was driving was probably high and sued them! But the pain went away ina couple of days and I can't even tell it ever happened (like some people feel pain when pushing old injuries or when bad weather comes.)

do your best to break the heads off the stuck bolts to remove the bumper. (they're only 10's anyone 12 and older should be ble to snap em ) no offense intended

once you can get to them give em a deep treat sea foam blast then start using the smallest drill bit you can slowy going large rand larger during the drilling use the sea foam deep creep a few more times as the heat from, driling will help. while going larger on the bits work to get the whole centered the best you can. then when you get to the size where the bit is as big as the bolt the bolt will usually spin through on it's own, Once you're that big if it don't come out on it's own don't go for the easy out, I've broken more than i've succesfully used. but once the hole is big enough to where you can see some of the OEM threads, use a tap to chase the rest out and then give it another blast oof WD or better yet use a lot of the orange anti-sieze that comes in a squeeze tube on the new bolts you put it back with and you won't have to do this again.,.. I rboke mine slowly one at a time over the last 12 years and this has fixed all the ones i've taken the time to work on LOL

Thanks for the info and i agree those bolts are way to easy to break. I have a coupe of tubes of anti seize that ill be sure to use when i put the new bolts in. My girlfriend ran out last night and grabbed an easy out kit so when i have a chance ill go back out and work on the car.

As for right now my foot is still twice the size it usually is but this bag of frozen peas seem to be helping haha. I should be back up and hobbling around by Friday i hope. :thumb:

Those 6mm Bolts break on every car I have ever worked on. Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsu. They are just low grade junk bolts. We call them BUTTER BOLTS where I work. Do like Turboglenn said and Drill them out then Re-tap the holes. Get a Tap and Die set with all the metric sizes. 6mm 8mm 10mm and 12mm They come in handy A LOT!
