thx for the quick reply...do you know what denotes it as a gsx?

btw...nice ride!

It also says it hasn't had the ball joint recall done.

I know going to carfax.com and putting the VIN in tells me it is a GSX.

It also says it is an automatic, but I am not sure if that is correct.

im not aware of that recall....do you think mitz will honor that or will i have to pay to get it done? btw - i heard you had to pay to use carfax or am i wrong?

thx for the pic jusmx....never seen the underside of one....looks nothing like my old 98 gs.

Mitsubishi has to honor the recall.

To get a full CarFax Report you have to pay, but you can get basic information for free.

guy says its a manual, here are the details...

Built 6-bolt swap with wiesco Pistons, ARP hardware, Mitsu MLS gasget, new water pump, oil pump, timing belt kit. Rebuilt transmission, factory HD clutch, & new front axles. 18x8 Enkei RACELINE Rpo1 wheels/ Kumho 225/40/18 Front mount intercooler, T3/T4 Garret .60 a/r, Turbonetics cast manifold/deltagate wastegate, Greddy BOV MAFT tuner w/ 3.5" GM maf, 72 /LB siemons injectors Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator w/ guage, walboro hi flow fuel pump. 3" stainless turbo back exhaust w/ magnaflow race muffler Interior is stock except it has no radio, just a faceplate with boost guage, A/C needs to be charged but it works. I have reciepts for everything and a dyno chart where it shows how rich it's running. pulled 330 hp on 16 psi with crappy MAFT tuner. Needs a stand alone computer to get the full potential. It's been babied on 16 PSI all it's life. No time to play or work on it, have more cars than I need. Just needs a another loving DSM'r to make it feel loved. TAGS have been out since 2002, to give you an Idea of how long it's been since I even used it. I would Just drive it around the block to make sure it started and changed the fluids often.

Well so signs of stupid mods or ridiculous claims. There are a few concerning things there. A factory clutch can not handle that power level reliable or for long, so that has to go. It's on a MAFT (probably an AFC too), so you need to switch to Link or ECUFlash (probably link since it is a 97).

The automatic thing may be incorrect, I did a VIN decode on my Spyder and my buddies 99 GSX and they both came back as automatic as well, but both our cars are manual and I know for a fact mine was manual from factory.

You should look under neath, to verify that it has the rear end.
yeah....im most def gonna do that.

Decoding VINs

thx for the info :thumb:

Yes, but his has never been completed, so they have to do it the first time.

well im new here and even tho i bought a 98 gs new, i never did any mods or delved too deep into the motor. vin says its got a 2.0 since he did a 6-bolt swap, what does that mean. ive read where some ppl have a 2.2 or 2.3???

It means it has an engine out of a 90-92.5 in it. 2.3 is obtained by using the crankshaft out of my car (The NT Spyder with a 4G64 2.4L engine) in the 2.0 block. The 2.2 is a niche thing offered by Magnus Motorsports.

The 6 Bolt is the block used in the 1GA's 90-91 cars mid 1GB mid 92.

The 4G63 engine comes in two varieties, and they're distinguished by the number of bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. The older six-bolt block had thicker rods and some other internal differences. The seven-bolt block replaced it sometime around mid-1992 build date.

so what is the advantage to the 6-bolt swap?

Let's leave it at the 6 bolt has a marginally lower chance of wearing out the thrust bearing under heavy clamp load from the clutch.

is the stock hp higher than the orig engine?

Stock for stock, no, if anything the 7 bolt has more horsepower stock.

well thx for the help guys.

im gonna talk to him about it later today. he's asking $5500, what do you think? body looks straight minus the front bumper....i'll know more later.
