i thought that was a 14b just checkin no i didnt buy it thanks people. oh yeah is that a 16g housing?

16G compressor housings are larger internally.. In order to use a 14b compressor housing with a 16G wheel, you need to remove some material in the inlet. The 16G compressor inlet is noticibly larger.

a real 16G is realy a 14b housing machined to have a garrett t3 wheel in it.

i was having a 16g rebuild and the guy told me from evergreenturbos.com

"Your telling me its a TD05/16G which mitsubishi did not make such an animal, so its probably a stock TD05 with a Garrett T3 comp wheel everyone calls a 16G. Either way can take care of it."

The 16G wheel is alive and well, in both "small" and "biggie" sizes. The T-3 wheel is a member of a completely different family of animals all together.. The actual measurements of a standard t-3 wheel are somewhere in between that of a small and big 16G compressor wheel. The "Super 60" comp wheel shares measurements more in line with a big 16G/18G combo.

You cannot just walk into the Misu. parts dept. and order a 16G comp. wheel however. It needs to be sourced thru Mitsubishi Heavy industries; The manufacturer of the 16G; or most DSM focused shops. .

The measurements of the Small are: 1.830 at the inducer (top section of the wheel) and 2.365 at the exducer (bottom portion). The Big has the measurements of 1.892 at the inducer and 2.680 at the exducer.

The 18G, just for the record has the following measurements: 1.900 inducer, 2.680 exducer...

The TD05H designation simply refers to the basic family from which the turbo comes., ALL TDO5H based turbos get the TD05H turbine wheel, which has measurements of 1.930 at the exducer and 2.200 at the inducer. (confused yet?) Meaning, all 14Bs and 16G's as well as the TD05H-18G's and TD05H-20G's have the same turbine wheel. The only difference on the hot size is within the actual turbine housing. (10cm, 8cm, 7cm or 6cm)

As far as the compressor housing is concerned, there is just more machining performed to accomodate the larger wheel.

This just refers to TD05H turbo's.. Once you get into the whole series of TD06/6H-18G's, 20G's and such; you're talking another ball of wax.

Thanks, I was having a hard time accepting Lx89stang05 post but it's been a year or so since I spent any time researching turbos and suffer from bit decay. The refresh I did tonight confirms what you just posted.

I think we have answered the original posters question by now :)
