ok so im looking at this turbo that a guy has and it looks like an evo 16g (cant get the pics on here). he said that the information plate says:

TDO5 Turbo
serial#mz0603770

is this a real 16g or an ebay 16g. i ask because he's offering it to me for 250 with an o2 dunp housing, j-pipe, all lines and gaskets and bolts, and another ic pipe. also no shaft play and a lil rust from sitting a lil but only has 100 miles on it

49176-01470 <-- thats what it should read on the compressor housing on that turbo if its a real e3 16g... the numbers you put up there are the S/N which doesn't help at all. its the number below the S/N (the P/N) that tells you what type of turbo it is. see pic below... and if it does end up being a real e3 16g make sure you get good pictures of the compressor wheel and turbine to check the condition of the turbo, its real easy to buy a turbo thats jacked up if you don't know what your looking at!

heres the part numbers of the 3 16g's so once he does send you the part number you'll know EXACTLY what your looking at...

49178-01420: Big 16G
49178-01520: Small 16G
49178-01470: EVO III 16G

I'm sure that most of us fellow DSMers would send all equipment they had without asking too much. The only thing I could say is to have a dealer check the serial number, but some don't know enough to tell you anything really..

its cool thats just what i have to work with. he claims it was an evo 16g and was on a 4g64 i just wanted to know if thiswas a real evo 16g or an ebay or other make.

those pictures you put up aren't helping to identify it... look above at that post i typed up. its not the s/n thats going to tell you what type of turbo it is, we're going to need the part number thats stamped on it. AND TDO5H isn't a part number either. the compressor blades look like a 16g so thats good but you either need the part number OR a good picture of the compressor housing so we can help you.

my .02 cents. from what he told you he's shady and trying to pull the wool over your eyes and get your money. that wga DOES NOT look like a mitsu evo3 16g wga at all, thats some ebay crap for real!

:dsm:

i had a good feeling it was an ebay from looking at pics and what not. and i assume to stay away from it since those are like hit or miss and you can get new ones for 250

thanks gofer it seems to look like all the other ebay ones LOL. so is it a decent buy and try for 200?

if i were to buy an ebay turbo it wouldn't be used... ive heard to many bad things about them. my personal experience ive bought an ACTUAL e3 16g used and it was blown so theres no way i would trust that a ebay 16 would be good. use the classifieds on this website if your trying to get a used 16g or your local craigslist man... honestly. that deal sounds shady because first of all the 4G64 motor ISN'T turbo from the factory so unless he put some serious money into his motor hes full of it. :notgood: so if he had all that money wrapped up why was he running that crappy looking turbo. its your money but im telling you ive lost $300 to a bad turbo and i don't want the same thing happening to you...

:dsm:

It is an Ebay turbo for sure. In post #5 you can see that it says TD05 TURBO on the compressor housing.

As for your question of "is it worth it", you'll have to ask yourself that question. Do you want to pay 200 for a turbo and take the risk that it doesn't last long (don't take this the wrong way, plenty of people have run this kind of turbo and had no problems with it), or just save up for a different turbo.

i actually saw this on craigslist and he took it off because his motor could not handle it LOL. i will most likely pass thanks for the heads up, jeremy
