Been looking at buying a DSM for awhile, and recently I came across a 1995 GST for sale. I was wondering if there is any bad traits about the 1995 since it is the first year of the second generation. Thanks!

If you are talking about the stigma of avoiding first year models when vehicles change... then there are no such concerns with this platform. The car in general is old so any problems that may occur will be due to the vehicles age not because it's a "first year model".

Alright, thanks. I see a lot more 1995s for sale versus any other year, so I thought I would ask.

Thanks, but that didn't answer my question. I'm curious about any specific issues with the 1995 model year in particular. That guide only goes over what to look for at meetups.

That link was totally appropriate for your application as it applies to all DSM's. In particular to the 95 FWD, I can only think of the front ball-joint recall. A benefit is the possibility of having an Eprom ECU. As these cars age, some owners have done hack-jobs of installing parts and electrical work. I would look closely at any aftermarket parts installed. A bunch of E-bay parts and hacked-up wiring will tell you how the owner treated the car. I would also inspect the strut towers closely as this is one big weak point on the 2g DSM. Additionally, I would recommend running a Carfax report. You would be surprised at the things I have found when looking at a used car. I have used this to ask the owner questions about the car's history. My 98 actually took a short trip to Spain.

EDIT: You may also want to familiarize yourself with a 6-bolt swap, as it is fairly common on 2g DSM's so you know what your looking at.

I haven't had any problems with my 95 gst. All general maintenances have been kept up and my motor still has great compression. I've had it thus far with 155k on the dash. I also have a built early 7 bolt without problems. Although the 6 bolt swap is preferred. I'll stick with my 7bolt as it has yet to have me a reason to swap. IMO

As stated, you may luck out with a programmable EPROM ecu.
95s have a stupid coolant sensor in the overflow bottle that tends to crap out so if you might see a coolant light on the dash.
Also 95-96 have a different CAS which can be a PITA to replace. It is usually replaced with a 1g or 2gb CAS with minimal modification.

I have had and still own my 95 tsi awd since 1999. Only issue I ever had was crankwalk and no other issue with the car other than the suspension control arm bushing which there is a recall Has a 6 bolt motor she's 21 years old 77k miles and still going strong.

I just bought a 95 TSI AWD, how can I tell if I have programmable EPROM I have not done anything engine wise. This is a virgin car with 137k, has had nothing done but maintenance on it.
