Is there a big gain?

unless your making big power there is no benefit to it. its for like 700+hp, mainly to control spark with an external spark controller box, anything under 700 people do it for looks, and it does sure look clean and mean!!!!

until you have a good management system to fire them sequentially and control dwell, you actually lose spark energy by going COP setup... many people sem to forget this but it's a long known fact.... But still I"dit for looks if I had the parts laying around :D

Thanks guys. I'm right at 560hp. Thinking about doing it like y'all said it def looks clean. I'm guessing dsm link isn't a good enough management system either is it?

At that power level, of you don't have a stand alone that allows for sequential ignition, don't go to COP, as you'll most likely start getting miss firesas you'll be supplying the same energy to two spate coils still firing together in waste spark instead of powering only one coil that lights both cylinders.... the only advantage is when you go sequential and instead of having a rotation between each coil firing you can space it out to two rotations allowing more charge/dwell time for each coil

But you might get away with it, I'm a little below you at 522 awhp and i already gap my plugs pretty small to avoid blow out on a stock ignition system. I won't even get into running a CDI any more, as i had a DIS-2 and literally feel like i had more misfire issues when it was working, not to mention the cost i was out when it failed in what i consider way too short of time. The only thing i can day out did consistently was drop two of my cylinders leaving me in a panic to find its bypass plug LOL... i haven't heard much different of a track record from those who run the dyna ARC-2 EITHER, just another expensive headache. And for no reason when there are people putting down 700+ on completely stock ignition every day.. on I'm off the soap box

OK, one more thing, i think the single best improvement you can make to stock ignition is to buy magnecore wires... i went through a set of wires every 6-8 months until i got the magnecores, I've had these for over 11 years now and I'm betting they last another 5 minimum... i am going to run them until they give up, and so far I'm a firm believer... never seem a wire this reliable, the only thing I've done is reinsulate where the caps go on with some silicone and they just keep delivering that spark

I don't know where I am oficially HP wise, but I run a DSM76 HTA at 30-35psi, and at 29psi I trapped 130.75mph in the 1/4 weighing in at 3395lbs. Take that for what you will, but the calculators I have seen put that at about a 525whp average down the entirety of the track. What's that? close to 600hp crank?

Anyway, I run stock ignition coils with a dynatek arc-2, and my plugs gapped at .018". I don't have any issues.

I'd say if you aren't having spark issues right now...leave it alone.

What was your time? Trapping 130? In the quarter. What turbo are you running?

Did mine for looks. I have enough going on in the bay plus only place I saw to have my coil pack was either zip tied to my wire loom next to my brake booster or run longer wires do I can put the coils on my fender.

Garbage ET 11.3 with a garbage 1.9 60ft. Making power was not the issue. Putting it down is/was. Launching anymore than 12ish psi and I break tires loose and don't have traction. The fully inflated street tires certainly weren't helping. Turbo is a DSM76 HTA.

We went 9.12 and 158.5mph and logged a max of 72.6 lb/min on the 100% stock ignition system.

I'd say that was about the limit. On super-cool days if the boost would spike to above 40psi or so from the 38psi it was typically set at, then the car would miss.

If you're not using some sort of CDI, then the majority of the coil-on-plug setups you see are actually a downgrade being that they're typically made using 300M coils which aren't designed for waste-spark ignition systems and can't recharge quickly enough to deliver a full spark when needed.

So if you're not planning to do it right and run a CDI, don't do it at all considering the stock ignition was still working fine at +/- 72 lb/min.
