Is my EGT probe toast?? **pics**

I have the greddy EGT gauge and greddy probe, and I decided to take off my heatshield today to clean it, and removed the EGT probe. This is what I find. It doesnt look very happy? Whatever metal casing was around the probe looks pretty much gone. I dont have a clue what its supposed to look like new, I never saw it. Is it usable or should it be replaced? Ill go with the TRE probe if this one's toast.

Go with the TRE one regardless. It is well worth the investment.

Is that pre turbo or post? if its pre I would definately not use it as there is supposed to be a cover over it and it the pieces missing went through the turbo and the rest of it has a chance of going through the turbo also.

The Greddy probe has a "sheath" which makes the probe last longer but it can destroy turbos. Here is a nice picture of my BT28 after it ate my EGT probe in a few hundered miles (less than 2000). I contacted Greddy and they had me send in my gauge, sensor (what was left of it) and control module. They said I never exceeded any temp that was "unsafe" (believe the termanology they used was "the unit was not used outside its intended purpose") "but the piece that fell off of the probe could not cause that type of damage to a turbo". But they were nice enough to send me back all my crap and a NEW EGT probe (which I chucked in the trash) and bought a TRE. I had to pay FP $500 to rebuild the turbo. THANKS GREDDY. My opnion is trash that thing and buy a TRE.
