I was reading the tech guide how to a egt gauge install, but it turns out that where it says to mount the egt probe is where I have my external wastegate. Is there anywhere else we could mount the egt probe?

The optimal place to mount the EGT is 4" from the flange on the #1 cyl
because #1 tends to run leaner than the rest.

Installing on #2 would mean maybe 50F diff in temps so just account for that on you EGT readings and should be fine. So max temps should be 920C instead of 950C.

The first and second runners arent your only choices. You could also mount it where all the runners meet at, in the exhaust housing of the turbo, in the O2 housing, or in the downpipe. All of these places are highly debatable. Some say its better to get an average reading of all 4 cylinders than just one cylinder. Others say to mount it in the #1 runner because it runs the leanest. Some say the #2 runner because thats the one that runs the leanest and thats why mitsubishi put the knock sensor behing the #2 cylinder. Like i said they are all debatable. Its pretty much up to your prefrence.
