Is my car turbo or not?

Ive been hearing this really weird PPPSSSSHHHH noise between shifts.

Ive been told that it's a vacuum leak. Someone said it is my turbo. I dont even know if my car is turbo charged or not. I have no stickers on my car, thats how I bought it.

People have also asked me if my car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, Im not sure of that either, but I really hope its rear wheel... How can I tell?

i had to reply to this. check out a dictionary or a car manual or something and read up on what a "turbo" is and what they generally look like. second, why the hell would you buy a car wihtout knowing anything about it? I hope there were some records with that car. And, asking if the car is rear-wheel drive, well that goes back to my previous statement about obtaining some knowledge of the car. I hope you didn't break your Lexus because those are nice cars. Please do us all a favor and do some research on cars, there should be about 100-150 years worth of information.

I just hope this thread gets closed soon. WTF

It has a really big single tip... I could stick my foot in there.

Can you fit your head in there? You should try when it is hot, after its been running for awhile. Metal expands when it is hot, so it should be easier to find out that way.

Looking at your sig pic it seems like you have a 2g Eclipse. Click on the link below and see if you have that engine:

There's two photos in that link, but they're the same engine. Click on the one in the right side (says 2g 1995-1999). Once you click on that pic there's two more pics that show up on the next page. The right pic on that page is a index which you can scroll down to press "turbocharger" and it'll show you where it is located in the engine bay.

Lexy, you have the internet. Use it, do a search whether on here or google. If your car is a turbo, you have a 4g63 engine. If it is not you have a 420A. Search for pictures of these engines. I know that there are plenty on here.http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/, this is a good example of what a turbo(4g63) engine looks like. It will also tell you what parts are which. Compare these to yours and there you go. Just do some research an you will find all of your answers.

Wait, I know who this person is, she's super HAWT, and a real nice 2G rollin on VOLKS, but whether or not its turbo'd, I don't know. No badges, huge exhaust, might be a GS-T/GSX. Next time I roll up on her I'll find out what the deal is.

Lexyis01, check the link I posted earlier to see if you have the 4g63t engine. You can also tell if you're turbocharged if you have the stock boost gauge circled in red below. If you are boosting then you can also use the link from earlier to see where things are located in the engine bay. Either way, congrats you're a DSM owner!

Ahem...SpooledGSX98, I circled the "stock" boost gauge cause that's the one she needs to look for in her car, which is what I typed in the previous post. Her car doesn't have my aftermarket boost gauge, smartarse. Oh, and by the way, your sig pic looks cool.

Another easy way to tell if you have a turbo'd car or not is this. Step on gas hard... wait, listen to the spool up ... then get WAY more power than you were ready for. Once the turbo is actually pumping enough air, the car just jumps forward. Oh, if it is turbo'd... research the upgrades to do. It'll be a lot of money, and a LOT of fun. Enjoy!

Lauren... just stand in front of the car... looking towrds the motor... is your air filter (either a cone shaped thing or a big black can shaped thingy) is on your left... then you have a Turbo... if its on the right then you don't.

The other easy thing is Guage Cluster.

I think your lucky that your a girl... otherwise this thread would have been closed at like the 5th post.
