So here's the deal...
I was showing my car (96 Eclipse GS-T, completely stock; only mod is HKS BOV) to some dood who brought a mechanic with him to inspect the car before he b
potentially ought it. He took it for a quick spin and came back. The mechanic tells me that the BOV is ruining my turbo because it's causing the turbo to spool too high to the point where it can't be cooled as fast as it should be. I forget what he said exactly, but he also said that DSM motors aren't built/designed to have the turbo vent to the atmosphere, causing the car to run rich and mess up the idle. He said, if it was vented back into the intake (with the crappy stock BOV, i'm guessing), then the life of the turbo would be higher and wouldn't be ruined. What took place was, he tried to lowball me, saying that the turbo would go out in 10k and he'd have to get it fixed and I told him to get the F out.
But, does what he say hold any merit? I was always led to believe that the BOV helps preserve the life of the turbo by venting the excess pressure. Thanks!
