Is it possible to change water pump w/o removing t/b

I was reading my Chilton's Mitsubishi Eclipse repair Manual and in the timing belt job section they say to remove all the timing belt componentos then install new ones and later install new water pump.

Is it possible to change the water pump on a 4g63 without removing the timing belts?

No, because you can't get to it.

dont sound like a good idea that belts are tensioned on its pulley!

Now you know why they say to do the water pump while doing the timing belt.

In fact... do everything you can while the timing belt is off. (check/replace oil pump, front case gasket, port oil filter housing (if necessary), new tensioner, etc.

Speaking of which... thanks Bruce.... for the oil filter housing porting tips and help. Oil pressure is nice and steady at middle (cruise) to 3/4 of gauge (WOT).
