This may be an absolutely stupid question, but when is a boost controller needed? I plan on slightly modifying the car ( I/H/E ) but I will be leaving the boost around the stock level. Is a controller needed?

How are you going to adjust your boost? Keep it stock, or get a mbc.

That's what I was asking. I understand how a boost controller works, but I just was unsure it if was needed if you weren't planning on messing with the levels.

a boost controller is needed if you desire any boost level above what the wastegate is set to.

Won't a more free flowing exhaust cause the boost to rise and spike? Or does the wastegate handle that?

If your stock look up how to remove the bcs restrictor to gain 1-4 psi. It's different on every car.I can't find the guide for it my work pc is slow.

Yes, a free flowing exhaust can cause boost creep. But a boost controller won't help since the creep is caused by a restrictive wastegate port.

I don't necessarily want to remove the stock BCS Restrictor. I'm wanting to do a few upgrades but retain the stock boost level.

So upgrades only give for more freedom to the engine. For instance when you put a exhaust on your car especaily one witha turbo engine it will free up exhaust gases for the engine. When you put better intake w/ filter it free up air it can suck it.When add bigger fuel pump and injectors it gives more fuel to be taken in.So with that said the only real way to make power is to tune it.So adding things like exhaust intake will make it little faster no doubt but anything your really ganna notice is a tune or more boost. So I had exhaust and a intake on my car when I first started.I did get my boost gauge and was like idk it's been so long sence I have seen stock boost like 12 psish? After taking out the bsc it was running my t25 at 15 psi and could feel the difference. So I see what your saying about wanting to keep it "stock boost" but even changing other things will change boost to an exstent. So I was just throwing out some ideas to help you it and I can say there all good and save never had a issue doing these mods.

Sounds good to me. Down the road, the most I plan on doing is maybe the T-28 at 15 psi. Then I know I'll need a boost controller.

A boost controller will make your boost adjustable (you can increase or decrease the psi output of the turbo). But when you raise the psi of the turbo, you will have to compensate the added air, with added fuel. This is where you need tuning software or AFC, DSMLink, etc. And once you max out your stock fuel pump, youll need an aftermarket walbro 255 lph pump. And then youll max out your injectors and have to go bigger. And all these combustable gasses will need somewhere to go, hence the exhaust... And youll need a bigger intake to pull in more air. Youll need bigger intake piping, and a bigger innercooler. Get a wideband o2 sensor and gauge (aem eugo) so you can make sure your around 14.7 at idle... And at wide open throttle you want 11.1-11.2... All knowledge is here! PM me if you need help. Happy tuning.

Well it doesn't hurt to get a boost controller.Just make sure there is a way you can moniter boost and engine knock.Best investment is ecmlink once you have this you can do anything with your car.:thumb:

The last thing this guy needs right now is a boost controller. He has none of the supporting mods, and sounds like he don't want them for a while.

Exactly. This car is my DD, and I want it to remain reliable. I'm only looking to squeeze maybe 200 whp out of it, and that's with the Auto.

Just do the free mods then, removing the restrictions in the stock BCS will up the boost a pound or two. Hold off on spending money on mods until the free mods are done and you still want more.

Just do exhaust and intake with bsc removal probably wont be 200whp but kinda close.Dump the t25 it will go out anyways just upgrade to a 14b, you can get one used for $40ish.Last thing that will most keep everything else stock is a bigger fuel pump the stock 2g one sucks. But thats about it and thats about and that's even probably alot mods for u.I can tell u I made 230whp with a 14b, exhaust, intake and 14psi so the t25 setup your running now is ganna need some more love.

I agree with doing the free mods first, but if you don't want to spend the money on a MBC there are plenty of posts on here that will guide you in making a homemade one on the cheap

I do plan on getting rid of the T25 in the future but that's last on the list. I've been reading and following the Upgrade Path to a T. And as far as the turbo goes, I'm pretty stuck on the T28 but I'm always open to suggestions.

EDIT: Money isn't an issue at all. I've been looking more into an EBC though when the time comes.

The ebc is our really good of you are going to be changing you boost setting on the fly which is generally just for racing. When you set your boost, generally you leave it alone.

Ok if money no issue go the t28 route get a 190 fuel pump, manual boost controller at 15psi you should be good.Just get a boost gauge and wideband for saftey and monitering. Also exhaust would be nice and you can keep the stock smic just change to hard pipes for the intercooler and swap out with a 1g bov becuase the stock 2g one is horrible. That should do it and last you till well your motor blows.I do love my aem tru boost ebc works great and paires with my aem wideband.

Too much money on suggested parts that he doesn't have a need for atm.

True but those are just basic stuff I guess might as well just run everything stock.Sure he can upgrade to a t28 but as you all know it won't stop there.;)

But anything else is pointless conversation if his car is stock keep it stock if want to mod it do it all, the list I made of parts can be all purchased cheap.
