Is this a normal boost controller? 4 connections?

Washington,
I bought this boost controller off ebay a little while ago and didn't really look at it untill now. All the ones i have looked at before seem to have only an inlet and an outlet. This one has 4 openings. My question here is; is this normal? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290059500338

That is what i was supposed to be getting. Seems like a cheap one but thought i would give it a try and see what happens.

This is what i received:

Is this some different type? Why are there for connections? can this still be used? It also came with a ton of different fittings and all.
Please let me know as i was trying to install this tonight as i just finished hooking up my boost gauge finally.

Oh and the attachment that is connected now, i put in, it did not come with that already in there and i have no idea if it is supposed to be, just forgot to take it out. The connectors also seemed to be stripping the screw hole when i would try to put them in.

looks like some junk home depot MBC off ebay. it probly would work just fine, but it looks horrible IMHO

it looks like a pressure regulator if the industrial type.

Does anyone know why there are 4 connections? All th other mbc's i have seen have only an inlet and an outlet.
I am hoping to have the ebay store who sold me that replace it as it is nothing like what was pictured in the auction. I just want to make sure before i try to do that, that this is not some sort of better boost controller or anything. Looks like crap to me, but you never know.

you got gyped bro...

All that is, is a pressure regulator that will cause you to spike to hell.
I had a Turbonetics MBC and all it was, was a Airbrush pressure regulator just like that. You can find those at home depot for certain they are made by a company called Shogren. I tossed mine out and opted for a Halman MBC after that ordeal. It was rated for 1-30 psi yous is probably rated to 25-300psi. One twitch and you have either a 5 to 50 psi difference. Do your self a favor and not blow your engine. A good MBC no matter what the price is still cheaper than a head gasket or a complete engine rebuild.

Damn good post SOLID!!:thumb:

Why are there four openings?
1 for the inlet from the air compressor
1 for the unregulated supply to the paint gun
1 for the pressure gauge to read regulated pressure
1 for the regulated air to pressurize the paint pot.

Why are you using a paint gun air pressure regulator for a boost controller? You want to generate a fixed pressure drop to control the wastegate, not a regulated pressure!

Yep, you got screwed. As stated, it's an air pressure regulator, not something that you should use as a boost controller.

Some things are better bought somewhere else besides eBay, that purchase was one of them.

Hopefully you "paypal"ed the purchase.

Deffinately not what you saw in the e-bay ad. I, personally, would file an "Item not as decribed" claim against the seller and send the item number and your pics to e-bay, and it should get resolved.

Toss that piece of shit in the trash, it's not worthy to sit in your engine bay.

Joe-P, Hallman, or Greddy Profec Type-S, those are my recommendations.

I doubt you'll get any money back from the seller. Turbonetics sells that exact same thing as a boost controller as well, btw. You did get lucky in that respect since they sell it for $80

The boost controller they have in their ad doesn't look too special either.

If you had read my thread i stated that i purchased one off ebay and was sent the wrong thing. That is why i was asking what this was. I have not installed it since i did not know what the thing was. it was nothing like what i ordered.

Ok thanks to everyone else for confirming that it is not a good boost controller. I did paypal it so i will file a claim to see if i can get my money back. If not, oh well not a huge loss atleast. Guess i'll have to go with a better known one then.
