Howdy,

I recently bought a used 90 Eclipse, and it came with a boost controller, the photo that is attached to this message.

I'm basically just looking for any information on this boost controller. I doubt it's a "good" one, but would like to know what exactly it is before I install (if I even do; if it's worth using this one, etc).

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

Thats one of those ebay controllers that sell for like $20.

That's what I figured. It feels cheap as hell.

I believe I have seen this boost controller on Ebay, not sure on original make/model or reliability, but i remember reading it was available with an "in cab" cable.

Fair enough. Didn't seem to come with an in cab cable of any sort. The pure lack of any info on it makes me suspicious of using it.

do not buy that boost controler, i promise u nothing but damage will come about, theres only two ways i recomend u do this , either you get a digital boost controler, and never waste your money on anything off brand or cheap, get aem tru boost, or get apexi acvtyper other than that make your own, theres plenty of links on here that show u how, and change ## bov stock 2g will leak at 14 or so

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It came with the car, not installed, but I won't bother installing it; not worth it if it is at all questionable.

There's nothing wrong with eBay boost controllers. They're just cheaply made. They're not going to cause any horrible harm to your car IF they fail (unless you aren't paying attention to your boost gauge and blow 30psi).

I ran an eBay special MBC for about 6 months until I could afford a Turbonetics. Just throw it on. It won't hurt.

Those ones that come with the T are no good, you either get maximum boost or no boost out of em, the only good cheap mbc is the brass one from NSX, you can get it from ebay and if you mention the dsmtuner discount you get it for like $15, it is by far the best cheap mbc off ebay. There are more than enough people on here who have them and have nothing but good things to say about them...they also talk of this one...they say stay away, it's best to be a sheep and listen to what other say about it in other threads as you dont want to damage anything expensive

there shouldn't be any reason it wont work. a boost controller is nothing more than a restrictor controlling the amount of air let thru. if you set it to the proper psi theres no way it can fail other than the adjuster backing it self out. to prevent that, after you set it to the pressure you want just put a small dab of silicone from the body of the boost controller to the knob. once it dries it will hold the knob in place so it does not move.

I agree. It came with the car, so use it until you can afford a better one. i.e. Hallman, Turbonetics, etc. I've got a Hallman ES (their most basic MBC) and I have not had any problems with it, and they're affordable to boot! :talon:
