hey guys,
I figured I'd take some pictures and put a tutorial of how to make your own IC pipes and FMIC for a 2g. i'm sure the same goes for a 1g, since they layout is similar [ but who knows ]

now for the detailed pictures :thumb:

first picture shows how I had to modify my bumper for the 3" core to fit. other pictures show how I managed to cut and use all parts of the U-bend to work on my car. I know that there is more piping than necessary, but the end result didn't seem affected by it.

btw, EACH U-bend is for connecting either: the lower end tank to the J-pipe/LICP, and the higher endtank to the existing UICP.

for the UICP > top end tank piping - cut the U-bend directly in half [ at the apex of the curve ] ... the longer end will be cut about 8" [ given you have the same dimensions as my core, modify as you must ] and then you flip the other end of the pipe and put it into where your UICP used to meet your SMIC. now that you have both straight ends facing each other at a 90 degree angle, join the two with a 5-6" piece of straight piping, with couplers.

*edit* In order for you to run the UICP the way I described, you must first take a die grinder to the passenger side bumper bracket. grind the bottom down to where the flared sides are basically non existant. then the pipe will actually REST onto the bracket itself.

for the J-pipe LICP > bottom end tank piping - cut the U-bend once again at the apex. then cut the straight side of that pipe down about another 6". cut the smaller side of the U-pipe down about 4 ".. the straight side will go into where your LICP used to meet your stock SMIC [ bottom end tank ] . joining these two parts of the U-bend with a 6" straight pipe with couplers is the same as above.

I will be modifying the bumper quite a bit once I get my hands on a sawzall.. i'll include that pic in my next post. I saved it from another DSMtuners member, but i forgot who it was [ all credit to them of course for the picture ]. basically the same setup as I did.

voila! you're done, i get about 1 psi pressure drop and she pulls harder than ever

OK, now for the no brainer paint shop arrows :thumb:

for the blue number 1, you flip the bent part and put it where the UICP used to meet the SMIC. all of the rest of the numbers and arrows are pretty self explanitory

for the last picture, the big red arrow on the passenger side is where I had to grind down with my die grinder. the two smaller arrows are pointing to the little flares that need to be dealt with.

Sorry I dont have the completed and assembled pictures , my camera died in the middle of everything. I'll post in about a week when I get back from florida.

also u may have lucked out on gettign the IC for $200.
where can the rest of us take advantage of this fabulous deal
 
thanks i definately did luck on getting the IC for only 200 bucks. coupe - what are those clamps called then, regular hose clamps?

as for the write up I tried to put it together right the first time, when i have time in a couple days i'll rewrite this sumofabiatch :thumb:

*edit I dont think beading the pipes is really necessary.. i'll have to see after a couple days of hard driving. but the clamps and hoses are very snug on there, I dont think I"ll have any problems with it

they're called worm gear clamps or regular hose clamps

as far as not having beaded pipes, good luck. although the clamps are tight and the hoses feel like they're impossible to pull off, you'd be suprised how easily they can blow off.
 
Yea, they're just worm screw clamps. T-bolts cost more, and as far as I know, aren't available at PepBoys.

As for the beaded piping, my UICP isn't beaded, but my lower had to be. I kept blowing couplers off, and ruining clamps trying to tighten them down so they wouldn't blow off with no bead.

I suggest beading them. I used a MIG welder, but I've heard JB Weld works.

How many pounds of boost are you running? When I turbocharged my 3g, I was blowing off unbeaded IC pipes at only 10psi.

You've done a good job for the most part - I'd say just label your photos with photoshop/paint, so that you can reference them. And also try being a little more detailed, using numbered steps so people can follow along with the install.

Good job - let us know how the I/C pipes do... I'm betting you'll have to bead them.
