I'm re-installing head after replacing gasket i've read thatI don't want any pistons at TDC, any reason I can't turn crank counterclockwise to set all pistons at half mast or do I need to turn clockwise? Also, any other tips on installing the head? Thanks in advance.

You can turn counterclockwise because there is no belt or anything connected yet.
I would recommend arp headstuds.
It helps to have the timing tools too.

I also recommend ARP head studs. Only advise I can offer is go slow, and do it right.
Properly torque the head down. Triple check timing marks. Make sure the mating surface is clean. Its a fairly straight forward job.
