Installing AGP T28 upgrade, question

We didn't have any problems with the oil lines. I guess it's just the luck of the draw...

I do recommend leaving the bottom of the oil return tube bolted onto the oil pan. Just remove the two top bolts holding it to the turbo if you can get away with it.

I too had to cut mine even with a line wrench i couldnt get that damm thing off. While you have it apart port your header or you will kick yourself later for not doing it < i know i did =0) > also port the O2 houseing or put the O2 dump on while your at it. And have lots of bolts and nots on had to replace bolts that will Break.

k, I have a new oil feed line.
Sounds like the hardest part of the install is gettin the nuts and bolts off. so when I go to change my oil next week I'll use the air gun thingy an losen up the bolts then tighten them by hand. Did you all forget to mention I may need extra oil and coolant since some may leak out when I'm removing the oil and water lines.

Hey, FourG63 97GST, when are you installing yours? I might wanna come watch. :D And if you don't have all the tools, maybe I could get Ricardo to loan you some-- we must have gone to Sears and Home Depot like 4 times to get all the stuff we ended up needing...

Wanna make some some sorta weekend project? I really wouldn't mind the extra help of this being my first turbo install and all.

any other surprises i should watch out for?

That's basically the only problem I've encountered. If you have any trouble feel free to IM me cause the install is still fresh in my head.

:) great! glad to know that I'll have a few people to ask incase i run into some problems.

One thing though... hehe my parents and I just got a new house, brand new (huge) garage... thing is, you all keep saying i'll loose oil and coolant... and I know my mom will trip if I get our new garage full of oil stains n such. Is it recommended i do the work some place else? hehe

I would just keep two containers on hand (that will fit under your car)
One for coolant , the other for oil.
I personally keep a big piece of card board & lay that down so if I do lose any fluids they will land on the card board not your garage floor.
If it does get on & stain your driveway its usually nothing that a little muratic acid & a cheap broom won't take care of . ;)
Good luck :)

Well I actually completed the install last night. Too bad I was such a retard I forgot to completely tighten the oil feed line at the turbo. It leaks just a small amount so I've gotta get back in there. I got a couple little pulls in after my car warmed...hard pull to redline at 10psi and seems considerably stronger than the T25 at 17psi. I see good things in store with the injectors, S-AFC and logger all installed(and of course a fixed oil leak). Unfortunately that means pulling the mani off yet again but sh!t happens :). I'm just glad nothing went wrong to which I could not immediately know the solution. I think this is the first time that's ever happened with my DSM and I :thumb: :dsm:.

Installing my AGP today!
Rob or Tom: How long did it take to install the new setup? :dsm:

Supposed to be about 3 hours If you are well prepared.
I wished I started this weekend, since my car may be in the shop next weekend getting that fender and bumper fixed. I should do a Vfaq on this. why didn't no on else think of that.

Is taking off the manifold necessary, or it just makes it easier to work with it off?

Ricardo is supposedly putting one together from when we did his. I saw the "beta version" but he's still working on it.

On some cars, it's next to impossible to drop the turbo out of the bottom of the engine bay past the downpipe. It's just a lot easier to remove the manifold and turbo together and pull them out the front. On mine, I'll have to remove the manifold for sure, since my O2 eliminator downpipe will definitely prevent dropping the turbo out the bottom. Hopefully that will also mean I won't have to take out the bottom two oil return line bolts and detach it from the oil pan, but I don't remember how much room there is to work with to get the top two oil return line bolts off from the turbo if all the rest of the parts are still in place.

Hey Tom? I think you can tighten the oil line, without removing the manni. I remember doing this when I had the 20G on the car. Not sure though. I would try using a small wrench or a Crows foot on an extension before removing the manni.

Unfotunately it is not on the car!:( My friend that was going to help me install it had to work late. So it is postponed until next weekend!

I installed my t28 tuesday and you guys covered everything that is a PITA about the swap except for three things.
1) a breaker bar is a must have!
2) the t25 will easily drop out the bottom if you can get the stud off it and if you remove the driver side fan. I had to use a hack saw on my stud cause it was solidly rusted in place.
3) it was no fun trying to hold the turbo up with the gasket and get the first bolt in, it wouldn't line up or the gasket would slip and fall to the floor, another person woulddd really speed things up :thumb:

the only other thing i wish i had was some gloves, every time I "loosened" a bolt my hand hurtled forward into a sharp edge in my engine bay. :(

good question.. i work SAT-SUN-MON-TUE and Wed im hoping to put my car back together but Thursday I could prolly do it with you.. if you havent gotten your friend yet.. its really not hard.. I did mine mostly myself.

Maybe I could leave my car with you wednesday and then come down after class on thursday and we could finish the install? What do you think of that?

You da man (and Ray too)! I couldn't do it for any amount of money. Did you first take your radiator out or at least the fan? I heard it's nearly as easy to just remove the whole radiator as it is just the fan, but we didn't try that-- we just took out the driver side fan. Still couldn't fit that turbo out the bottom, though. Depends a lot on your downpipe, I guess.

you may have a problem with the oil return to the oil pan the turbo houseing was cocked a little i guess wasent set right when i got it makeing it impossible to hook the oil return <unless it grew 1 1/2 and twisted some wich it didnt so i had to cut the oil return line and use some high tem silicone hose in the middle so i would have the extra length and the twisst to it so it could be bolted up. so that was 1 problem the other was the oil line that came with the turbo i didnt put it on till last <with i recomend you put it on while off the car> unless you want to grind down your 15mm < i think it was > SnapOn also <dammit it>
to get under the header and in between the turbo houseings.
Well my install took like 7 hours i had problems and i also installed my O2 dump and ported my header top and bottom <might as well while you got it out if you dont you will be kicking yourself in the ass later and i ported my O2 dump <witch if you dont remove the old oem oil line the O2 dump will not fit ......well at least the one i had it was a custom made one. so 7 hours but keep in mind drinking beers and takeing breaks =0)
oh and also installed the test pipe. I can not take full advantage of the turbo till i get the injector and afc and boost controller <manual one is just crap> dont feel like hiting 25 psi every time i try to get it right.
