Just wondering if this would hurt anything? I'm planning on doing the modification located here:
K&N/MAS Filter Modification

in conjunction with removal of the silencer and bottom honeycomb.

When you remove the honeycombs, less air is measured - you do this is you are getting close to overflowing the stock MAS or feel like removing the restriction and tuning for it. Swap out the filter = no problems, but I would leave that MAS alone for awhile, the car is still mostly stock.

You should never remove the honeycomb because it's there to help smooth out airflow and it's really not much of a restriction. The maf sensor is meant to work in a laminar flow and the honeycomb helps achieve that. Obviously the flow will have some turbulence, but removing the honeycomb will only increase the amount of turbulence and thus make your maf reading less accurate which in turn will mess up your a/f ratio. So don't do it it's not worth it.

Please be more specific? Why do you say this?

1g MAF's can be hacked within an inch of their life, no big deal really.
Helps to lean the motor out a bit, or alot depending.
Good a/f gauge and fuel control would help here.

^ your right better have a wideband!

I always use just a good ole fashion wix filters. I never have thought putting something in the car that allows more air and dirt in the motor as a good idea.

hmmm.... well i dont know about using a piece of wood to keep the filter off the body, on my n/a i took the air can out, and cut alot of the can away so that air would flow freely to my k&n, but i could still bolt the rest of the air can to body so that it would secured, i know this sounds really confusing, but ill try to post a pic so you can understand better <img src="C:\Documents and Settings\Norman Cagle\Desktop\P072508125314.jpg">
