Installed new ecu, car runs for 10 sec then dies

I have a 91' Talon TSi, no mods. I was driving it the other day and it died. I wasnt getting spark so I bought a new coils and that still didnt fix the problem. I have an extra ECU that came with the car so I put that in and it will run for about 5 seconds then i hear a click and a few seconds later it dies. I have no clue what it could be. I do know that the ECU I pulled out looked different than the one I put in because I opened both up and the new one had way more chips on it. Iam pretty lost here and this is my daily driver so any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have a CEL?
This guy here had a similar problem and it turned out to be the PT. (power transistor)
When it was warmed up it would stop functioning properly.

would a bad power transistor cause it to shut off like that even when its cold? Right now it will not run for more than maybe 7 seconds.

Just because it's a different ECU doesn't mean it's a good one.

Assuming a stock ECU and federal car you should have either a MD166262 or MD165531 ECU in the car.
Take the top cover off both and post clear pictures of the circuit boards including the white edge connector.

I popped open both ecu's and they were both shot. Does any one have an extra one I can buy for a good price? Thanks

WTB ads belong in the classifieds.

Without seeing the ECUs I can't tell you if they are worth just getting repaired. Often that's a safer option than taking a chance with somebody's "good" ECU.

Back when I was repairing them I'd often see guys who have tried to go cheap and after several failed attempts at buying "good" ECUs they wised up and had theirs repaired and fully tested.

Today the only people I know do quality work you can depend on is ECMTuning.

He's right. I had so many electrical problems with my car finally I sent it in and oh my god does my car work great. No dash lights no cells and the car is so easy to tune.
