Inline Pump AFTER Fuel Filter

I know this isn't the best way to do it, but I wanted to know if it is possible to do a 2nd inline pump AFTER the fuel filter. This way you wouldn't be required to purchase and install a bunch of fuel line. I haven't seen anyone do it, I was curious...

It takes a lot to max out a 255.

There are guys rocking close to 900 horse on a 255.



But yes you can install a pump after your fuel filter, it won't affect anything.

Why wouldn't you just slap a bosch 044 in there and be done with it?

Yes. I have it in reverse though. My 044 is in tank (only 1Gs can do this) and I have an inline 255 ie. 392. My fuel feed to the fuel filter is stock and I do have the stock fuel rail and stock fuel pressure regulator too!

I have been searching for a few minutes trying to find the article on fuel pump write-ups, because i believe it was super street or import tuner, who did the fuel pump test, and the 255 started running out around 900.

I have a buddy with a 03 cobra, with a kenne bell on it, pushing close to 700 to the wheels with a 255.

Also look at all the rx7's making ass loads of power on the 255.

I can understand the 255 not being able to support E85, but the 255, flow's 255 Litre's per hour, or about 70 gallons a hour.

Going with 2 pumps, is just silly, unless you run out. That's like everyone who upgrades to the larger turbo's when the 16g has proven 10 second quarter mile times.

Knowledge will get your tiny 16g into the 10's, and lack of knowledge will get you in the 11's with a larger turbo (ex. 50trim). I will keep searching for the fuel pump numbers.

A single 255lph is not going to support 900HP. Put up your article(s) and math. You would be lucky making 600WHP on a single 255 with E85 on a DSM. Just because a 255 flows 255lph @ 0psi does not mean it's flow remains static at much higher line pressure. So before you call us silly for doing what we do, back up your claims!

BTW 03-04 Cobras do come with dual fuel pumps stock. TWO 119lph fuel pumps for that matter according to KB. That is a combined flow of 238lph @ 80psi line pressure. That is more than a single 255lph at that same pressure. So your buddy "upgraded" to a single 255 from the stock duals for 700WHP? Do you want to rephrase that? Nice try!

i never said that it could handle e85.

and my buddy has a bosch 044 in tank. and the majority of the cobra guys, do the single pump upgrade and throw a focus pump as a replacement for the two junk ones from the factory.

It does not matter. A 255lph pump will not support 900HP or 900whp even on straight gasoline! What part of that didn't you understand? The numbers I used in my previous post were WITHOUT the use of a BAP and as tested at 13.0V which is very close to what most DSMs see at WOT at high RPM. If you actually read the info. in the link I provided you, you wouldn't be repeating these false statements over and over again. You are basing your points on falsehoods. I AM STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO POST YOUR ARTICLE(S) SAYING THAT A 255LPH PUMP WILL SUPPORT 900HP. PUT UP OR SHUT UP. Seriously.

I honestly at this point don't care what your Cobra buddies have done or not done. I know it's bullshit...and I have proven to you why.

The fastest DSMrs would not be spending hundreds of dollars to beef up their fuel systems if all they had to do was toss in a 255lph pump and make 900HP on it.

That looks pretty good on paper. They kinda tested in on voltage that most DSMs don't see at WOT with the factory charging system though. Would have liked to see numbers at 13.0V.

Damn, I didnt intend to cause a flame war!! Anyway, I only commented as I noticed Diambo seems to be using the factory fuel feed, and I have long been curious as to whether or not one could retain this, with the use of two pumps, ie 255 with 044, for use with e85 and maintain adequate fuel flow. Ive been tossing around just making my own -8 line from ss hydraulic tubing, vs the hose most people use for this, but I would like to just stick with the stock stuff and just use a high flow filter and the typical -6 line from filter to rail (to clarify, I have had a -6 kit from tank to rail), IF this will support the numbers Diambo is putting down. For the sake of keeping it simple, I would like to run a single pump for my e85 setup, but considering it takes roughly 30% MORE e85 to make the same numbers, I just dont see it happening. Will someone please elaborate on this??

I have a setup like Mike's, and have for years. I have a 255 in-tank, and a 255(392) inline after a fuel lab filter in the stock location. With stock fuel lines up to the filter. I have run it like this for a few years with no adverse affects, like Mike said, fuel goes quick on e85. I'd recommend this setup to anybody, it's easy to install, cheap, and effective!

How much HP do you expect to make? The problem is the fuel pressure DROP at your max boost level. [Look at any fuel pump pressure graph.] Running E85 makes this worse since fuel demand is greatly increased. This is where a 2nd inline pump helps since instead of that pressure plunging up top, the 2nd pump sort of acts like an amplifier and flattens the curve vertically somewhat ie. maintaining higher pressure up top. The new JayR pump is good but it barely flows more than the 044. You have to be careful when looking at fuel pump charts. Look at the voltage they are tested on and look at the 65-85psi range to see how the pump flows at that level. We are not V8s that run low boost ie 20psi and less.


mnetwork, not sure how to answer your question. I did nothing special. The fpr just works like stock. It may be a different case with a 2G though since your fuel lines are smaller, you have a saddle type tank with the restrictive siphon etc. This may affect how the stock fpr works with a much higher flowing pump or pumps.

On my 2g awd, when I installed the in-line pump, I couldn't lower base fuel pressure to stock level. After I drilled out my siphon I could turn it down plenty, so that IS something to pay attention to. I have an AFPR, by the way.

As far as power goes, my new setup is going to include Bluemax 1850cc injectors, E85, cams, smim, and an HX35 on 30+ psi with the BEP vband housing on a twinscroll manifold. Thank you for mentioning flow vs pressure, vs voltage, I forgot to put that in, and many people fail to take this into consideration, and if you look at the numbers, the 255 really falls short at higher pressure levels, especially on corn juice. Diambo, I noticed you ran the time in your sig on pump gas. Have you ever tuned on e85 with your setup?

Also, Diambo, what is your base fuel pressure utilizing the factory regulator with your setup? Ive ran a 255 for years, and just use an AFPR because everyone says you suffer fpr overrun with a 255, so I never tried running with the stocker, but I am now curious about this...
