I'm on a budget and need a new head for a1995 eclipse gst. I want more power but as I said I'm on a budget atm until I start my second job in a week or so. I've heard the 1g will bolt on but that a good stage 1 or 2 is better. Can anyone suggest which head to use and maybe the name of a company that sells them for a decent price? Again this is a request for suggestions not a want to buy ad.

I looked at your profile but couldn't find anything about what kind of car you have, you will want to fill that out so others can try to help.

Thanks and sorry about that but I've edited the original post to include the car I'm asking about

The 1G will bolt on, it has larger runners though so your intake will have smaller runners going into a larger runner head. My car was worse when I got it. It had a 2G head with a 1G intake so the velocity was hitting a brickwall almost as it tried to enter the cylinders. I swapped to a 2g intake, well actually a EVO 3 intake to match up but to answer, it will fit if you are on a budget but I would look for another 2g head if possible.

What is wrong with the head you have now?

There is a huge debate on what is the better head 1g or 2g.

Both have pros and cons.

But in the most general terms, the 2g small runner is better on the street and off boost driving.
the 1g big runner will do better in the upper RPM and high boost/big turbo area

So if you are running a stock to modest sized turbo, and use your car as a DD keep your 2g head

I'm planning on using this car for autocross events and slowly building it for road racing as I get the money to get it to that point. I will not be using it as a dd I will be driving it for short drives only to test and tune it otherwise I will be trailering it. And the head gasket is blown so I figured since I'm taking it off now I might as well go ahead and upgrade it. Also I'm modifying the turbo at the same time to a t28 and putting a manual boost control on it. That's why I'm asking which one would be better for the upgraded I'm currently doing.

With the T28, and AutoX/road racing
A solid built/ported 2g will fit you good.

What would you recommend for internals obviously new cams, springs boots seals stems and rocker arms but where to get them and what brands would last the longest

As for a 1G head -- you would also need a 1G intake manifold as the 2G manifold will not seal against the head: intake manifold difference.

That goes without mentioning the thermostat housing and water pipe situation, which would also be needed from a 1G. It will be more cost effective and "easier" to use a 2G head.
