Good new:

The other day i pretty much finished up everything by going to the junkyard and getting what i needed, i also ran across some headers, not just any header GReddy headers, and i was shocked to find them at a junkyard, so i bought them for 17 dollars, i know they were GReddy headers because of the little metel GReddy badge on em.. some i got a lucky break...i dont think i ever was going to buy them for 4xX dollars...now the cars complete.

Bad new:

Yesterday was the first day i actually revved it up, since the throttle cable was broken, and the most horrible sound, the sound i am utterly petrified of..sounded, a knock. i took a brief pause thinking of how i got the engine free, and how it was sitting outside for 1 year and two month, and i began to beat myself up for thinking that everything would be okay...well it wasnt.


So now i have to get a new engine and do it all over again. But luckily the eclipse that i got the GReddy headers from only had 76,000 miles on the 420a, so i am going to save 200 bucks and go pick it up, and do an engine job all over again.

I honestly did not hear any type of rod knock whatsoever.

Note: Your exhuast gas is exited in pulses. With a deep exhaust like that you could very well be hearing what I just stated.

Hey man I bought my spyder gs about two or three weeks ago. Everything seemed fine but after spending $650 on a paint job and another $200 in parts it started knocking. So I'm in the same boat as you. Try to get a good engine. Good luck to you.

Well, where to start. I heard lots of noises in that so called video. None that resembled this "knock" your claiming. We need a high quality sound vid with the hood popped to make any decent assumptions.

Could you explain this knock a little better. Is it continous? it still knocks while idling correct? is it effected by RPM's?

now theres a check engine light, and the car almost dies sometime, and the knock is not present at idle, but only at certain rpm's, sometimes it doesn;t even knock, so idk wtf is going on, maybe i messed up the timing?

your best bet is to check you valves, and lifters with it being intermitant and not constant. that's usually where the "slight" knock comes from. if it's anything more than a "tick" noise, you've got a lot of work to do. one thing that could help is getting a stethoscope with a piece of metal tube on the end and using it on your car like you would a human. that'll tell you where the knock is coming from at least. have a buddy play with the throttle while you do, so "hopefully" you can get the knock to appear. hope that helps and good luck.

Also if you have the ability: make sure you're throw out bearing is locked into position. Cause I forgot to when I did some clutch work at one time, and it resembled a faint intermittent knocking. I snapped it back into place and the noise went away. Granted, to do this you're looking at a days worth of work AT LEAST. Your car dying sounds like a Vaccum leak. you can listen for that with a steth. as well.

BTW: Just use a car antenna for the Stethescope. Works great. Assuming you have a car with a detachable one around .
