Hey, good to know I'm not alone ;) Tool Man here, 3SI and everywhere I post. We get a bad rap on weight from the VR4 weight at around 3800lbs I guess, I don't know. I may Dyno at a shop around the corner, and I'd like to get to the track for a run or too, but that may be next year. I hate talking alot without times and such to back things up.

Hey Tool Man... its good too see another 3/S'er on here setting everyone straight :) I'm Blk963kgt from 3SI by the way.......
The thing I still don't get is why you all still think that we are so heavy? My car weighs maybe 3200 lbs.. a 2G AWD DSM weighs in at 3270 according to edmunds.com... And a 2G GS-T weighs 2970... thats not that much of a weight difference.
The stock N/T DSM is not even is not even a race for a DOHC n/t 3000gt.... I have raced my friends 99 GS from a stop when my clutch was slipping bad and I had 0 mods and my car was badly out of tune... I shifted at 5500 rpms and my clutch slipped hardcore...... I took him by at least 2 cars... and now it would not be pretty at all for him....
A N/A DOHC 3000GT is more of a race for a stock GS-T or a GSX.... I have taken down my little brothers 1990 GS-T (19eclipse90) and do not even attempt to race N/A DSM's anymore..... its just not fun... I like a challenge...
A high 14 is very possible for a stock DOHC 3000GT... I myself ran a 15.3 at 92.32 completely stock slipping clutch and out of tune....
Most of the times I have seen for N/T DSM with I/H/E have still been in the low 16's hi 15's....
Neither are really fast cars right out of the box... the 3000GT is faster though.... They both have potential with the Turbo systems available..... I myself am hoping for a TT conversion in the near future.....

And N/A DSM guys... if you see a 3000GT with projector headlights, hoop spoiler similar to a 97-99 DSM, and ugly 16 in stock wheels... race them... its probly a SOHC and you should be able to beat it good....

Obtained from Web April, 2001
0-60: 6.9 Transmission: Manual
1/4 Mile: 15.8
1/4 Speed:

ehhh thats a 92, no sohc, only dohc, and they say 15.8 and i believe it. i was stock running mid 16's, and my friend had an upgraded clutch and barely pulled. you dont barely pull on a 16 second car if you run a low 15. im sorry i dont believe it. there not as fast as you make them out to be.

my friend got really into modding too when i did, but he soon gave up cuz theres not nearly as much aftermarket for the dohc NT then there is for the VR-4 of even our NT's

10 pounds ~ 1hp ~ .01 seconds

so ur tellin me that a civic dat weighs in at about 2350lbs (weighin 400lbs less than a gs) and has around 120 hp is gonna have... wait lemme do the math... the civic would have 160 hp in relation to the eclipse since 400 lbs accordin to you will make 40 hps. yeah i could imagine all you people gettin whored by civics if we follow ur scale. now, at 50 lbs per hp like i said, the civic would be at 128 hp. now u tell me which one makes sense.

NO!!!!!!!!! Good Lord!!
Let me use your example... The Civic weighs 2350lbs, it has 120 hp and only 120hp, AT 2350lbs!!!! ANY WEIGHT ADDED, you subtract that much horsepower by using whatever scale you damn well want to. So say you have a 150lbs driver, and as you say at 50lbs per hp, the civic would then be at 117hp. Cars don't gain horsepower when weight is added, and cars won't gain horsepower when weight is lost. AND NO, just because a car weighs less than another doesn't mean you can magically give the car horsepower. Cars will have this much horsepower, period. That's where torque comes into play. The engine has less amounts of weight to move allowing the torque rise. Make sense?

The only thing that changes when you add/subtract weight is horsepower to weight ratio.
That's like the people telling you that their body kit adds 5hp.

I don't know how horsepower came into the picture, but i've always used the old one of 100lbs = .1 second off of your time. Bringing horsepower into the equation (dealing with weight and time) is like trying to convert cubic inches to Kilograms.

i never said that a car will gain more horsepower through weight reduction, dat ridiculous. i said it will be equivalent to a certain amount of hp when compared to another car of its same weight. its relevant. in other words, this much weight reduction, will make up for this amount of hp. nevermind this weight crap has gotten way outta hand.

I bought a 95 Eclipse RS new in 95, and I just bought my Son a 95 Eclipse GS and my car is in my sig, with just BPUs. I'll run you from a roll or from a dead stop any time. Don't get me wrong, I love the Eclipse, that's why I've bought 2 but an 4 cylinder NA Eclipse is not going to hang with a DOHC NA 3000GT.

sorry to bring this discussion back, but i stumbled over it while searching the forums(if only everyone could learn from me ;) )

this happened back when i still only had intake, exauste, and udp.

i was driving on the highway, with my friend with the 92 DOHC 3000GT. he was about a car length behind me and i saw him punch it in my mirror. i down shifted to 3rd, and punched it. he continued to gain on me until he was about even with my back bumper and then i started pulling away from him. a NA eclipse cant take a NA 3000gt dohc from a roll... pfff

You got lucky.... If you were going to take an N/A DOHC 3000GT from anything it would have to be from a dig, and he would have to be the worst driver ever... or it was ATX.... Anyways... an N/A DOHC 3000GT MTX can and will run a hi 14- low 15 COMPLETELY STOCK.... I ran a 15.3 with a shitty 2.4 60' bone stock and I am not that great of a driver.... Your car even with those mods would be lucky to break into the 15's at all..... And from a roll where you drop it into third gear an Eclipse N/T has no chance at all.... 3000GT's are great on their top end, I take my brothers GS-T from a roll in my car....... So keep dreaming..... Or if you did actually beat him, congrats, you raced a sick 3000GT w/ a shitty driver...... But don't go and dog the 3000GT's..... They are faster cars.... And better looking too.....

you obviously missed the point of me posting that... hes a manual, and he was already in gear when i downshifted, and once your in gear at a higher speed pushing it, its all the cars muscle from there, and my car out muscled his. when i saw him the next day i said "i pulled on you" and he looked down and goes "i know". i think your overestimating the 3k GT, especially cuz its so heavy. ive eaten a couple on the highway. they run a 15.8 stock. and starting from a roll isnt going to be there strong point being heavy. i was posting that to show that, the NT eclipse, like ive said all along, can take a 3k GT from a roll. thankyou
