ignition timing

is the ignition timing mark supposed to jump around soo much when you trying to tune it .. i have it at about 5 degrees and when the light its blinking it will flash anywhere from about 2 to about 10 is that normal ? What will cause that ?

My guess is you didn't ground the check timing connector correctly.
The first time I did it I managed to ground the plastic pin inside the connector and not the actual pin.

You mean you have to ground something out to check the ign timing ?
I just changed the timing belt .. could it be that the timing belt is too loose ?

A cam tooth off can cause this as well as low compression. You should be reading 8 degrees btdc without the plug grounded and with it 5 degrees. Check out vfaq or plymouth laser.com for instructions.

Yep, otherwise the timing will jump around and it has various advances applied.
You have to ground the check timing connector over my the battery to get the ECU to lock its setting so you can set 5 BTDC.

The timing belt is dead on . it might be a lill loose im not to sure yet i need to make a tool to make sure its tight enough all the marks lined up. and still do ... when i grounded the system it still jumps all around.
I am getting some realy erractic blinks outa my timing light as well like there will be studders in the light i tried it in another car and it works perfectly .. .now what could be causeing my erratic spark ?

Cam angle sensor or ignition power transistor. I would check these two items.
