I have a N/A '91 Laser RS, and yesterday while i was driving it on the highway i was doing about 65 which is about 3k RPM. well after a little while the engine sounded like it got bogged down, RPM dropped to about 1500, and it tripped my engine light. luckily in my schools auto shop they have a scan tool that will plug into my car, so i checked the code and it said it was the ignition coil. well i got a another coil pack for the car, tested it to make sure everything was good and it checked out fine. i put it in and the car started right up. since i thought it was fixed a started heading home and after about the same distance it happened again. car runs terrible, i'm pretty sure its only on 2 cylinders, idles at about 300, etc.

I'm hoping that this has happened to someone else and they can give me some advice, because i dont want to get another coil just to blow a third one when i plug it up. there has to be something causing them to go out like that... any suggestions?

How new are the spark plugs and spark plug wires?

I'd try replacing those first if they are old.

Plugs are less than a month old. i've had the car since june and have not replaced the wires, but they look pretty new and i ohm'd them out and they all tested okay.
