OK, i just finished the install on my Evo 3 16G and it seemed ok. Until i got on the straight away just before my house. I pounded on the gas in like 3rd or 4th gear and i was hitting about 12-14lbs. And btw this is all stock no fuel mods no BOV or boost controller. I was so happy. Then i boosted again just before reaching my street i hear the loudest (coolest) bloww off ever. But my car died. Also it would not restart. So i look under the car and my intercooler hose blew off that goes from turbo to intercooler.

Needless to say me and my friend pushed her up hill the rest of the way and i got some better hose clamps and clamped the ic hose back on. Keep in mind this is on a 2g so i had to cut the hose to fit the j pipe comen off the turbo. I tightened it as good as i could sinse the hose sux now. It hasnt come off but i have the feeling i have a boost leak. Now, as my friend pointed out as well, the damn thing barley spools up. Where as the first time i drove it it was like a dream, 14 lbs by like 3.4 rpm. But now i can be in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear, step on it and barely get ne thing until like 4rpm and when it does its SLOW and only reaches about 5 psi.

Now i have searched pretty good for a solution to this particular prob, and i found the link on how to boost leak test. BUT, i just want to know your guys' opinion on this before i go and spend all this time doin a leak check. Do you think its deffinatly my IC hose, or could something else have happened to prevent me from getting boost?

Thanks for the help

a boost leak test should take 5 minutes. plus it costs about 5 bucks to make a leak tester. and is definately worth it.

btw im betting boost leak.

Proper procedure after installation of turbo.

1. Prime the turbo.

2. Start the car and let it idle till operating temperature.

3. Make sure the turbo is getting coolant and oil and there are no leaks.

4. RE-torque all the bolts.

5. Perform a boost leak test.

6. Turn the mbc all the way down and test run.

Most important being step #5 for exactly the reason given by the thread starter. Perform that boost leak test immediately, let's hope you didn't already damaged the turbo from overboosting. Good luck.

my question is, why did you get a turbo before all the supporting mods. thats never a good thing. people Ive known that threw bigger turbos with not supporting mods lead to many things breaking. make sure to keep the boost DOWN until you get all the necessities.

Blowing IC pipes off does suck.... but I also have a VPC so even when I did pop one off, I was still able to drive the car. Now ya, air is not going through a filter anymore but for regular highway driving or just around town till I could get somewhere to fix it, its alright.

glad i dont have a stock mas anymore
