well today i finally got my new DSM (the one in my siggy) i dont have much exp. with driving a stick , but i do fairly well coming home from about a 20 mile trip. I stop at a stop sign and i go to shift into 2nd and it sounds like its out of gear then it finally catchs and goes about.. But then i was coming home and i noticed that i didnt seem to have a clutch anymore i think i broke it? my dad says they do that sometimes but he knows nothing about a 90'+ car.any help??

Oh and my friend is trying to take his inside door panel off but it seems to get stuck on the manuel wind mover upper thing. It is a 1996 cavalier. anyone know much about either?

about his door panel, the manual window roller needs to come off, either it pops off, or there is a c-clip behind the actual handle, it is easier to go to the dealership, usually they have a tool to get them off b/c you can easily mess up the panel by forcing it.

Cavaliers have a clip behind the crank you need to pop off, there's a cheap tool any decent parts store would have, or you can use two flatheads to pop it off.

As for the clutch... explain more???/ You went for 2nd, it ground gears for awhile and then went in, and then you had no clutch anymore? Did you just leave it in 2nd and baby it home?? I'm kinda confused as to what you mean.

okay here is what is going on with my clutch... reverse works fine but when i put it in first it moves the car at about 5 mph but seems like its not in gear. after holding my RPMs at about 5grand for about 10 secs it catches and pulls like it should.i shift to second..does the same thing.. seems like out of gear then it magically goes in gear. I think i messed up my clutch pretty good =( but hopefully i just broke something small and can repair it in no time. please help

sounds like you blew the clutch man.... or I should say sounds like you bought a car with a blown clutch already, im gessing you didnt take it out for a good long drive did you...

Yep, you have more than likely purchased a car with a clutch problem or 2. But, first sign of a clutch going bad is high RPM engagement. So if you are keeping your foot on the clutch at all and it is not engaging when it should, it might need to be adjusted. Your manual driving experience sounds slim-to-none so it could be a mirad of things.

master
slave
adjustment
clutch disc

All these things are problem areas. Get a local DSM'er to check it out for you. :thumb:

Ya man, your clutch is shot... I remember on my first DSM, a 90 tsi awd, I let a friend of mine drive it on his 21st birthday, I was 16, (we were both wasted, stupid I know). He drove the piss out of it, and during one 1st gear launch he slipped out the clutch revving probably about 6k rpms and poof, a huge cloud of smoke came out from the bottom of my car... After that, I had to limp it home going 5mph in first at like 5k rpms hah.

Who is Manuel? And why does he move wind. Wind moves itself. Sounds complicated, you'll probably need to take the whole door to a machine shop.

This is what you need to get your friend to buy.

From my experience with the c-clips.. Take a thin piece of cloth (an old tshirt works well.)

Work the edge of it behind the window roller, and start to pull it back and forth like a saw.. Move the shirt around the entire handle, until the clip pops out.

Or, make a L out of a paper clip, sneak it in there and hook the clip, pull it out.

To re-install, you put the clip on the handle, line it up in position, and pop it back on. Which is why we're stuck with the damned things in the first place- easy assembly at the factory.
