My stock 1g bov starts leaking around 21 psi and it's time for an upgrade (I'm turning the boost up to 26 to 28psi soon). I have a dodge mod that I picked up cheap about a year ago from another user here. I was planning on using this, but I have some reservations because I read a bunch of posts about it causing compressor surge (I don't even have a full understanding of what compressor surge is, but I know it's bad : P ). Is this a real concern or should I use it? Also, what do I hook the bottom nipple up to? Any vacuum source? I assume the top nipple goes to the same spot as stock.

Here's my dodge mod bov:

I was also looking at the Forge recirculated BOV since it's under $200. Will that hold 28psi? I have no idea.

check out ngr on the bottom of our page. its one of the venders they have a type s they make that will do what you need perfectly and they are $149

I would go with the dodge modded bov. I've had mine done for this past season and I have no complaints. The thing holds 30psi... Can't beat it for a stock bov
Also there is a difference between compressor surge and bov flutter. When you "dodge mod" a bov, you are basically eliminating it's way of releasing air quickly, and therefore it starts fluttering when you get off the throttle. It's not the compressor surge many people confuse it with...
If you want a bov that holds high pressures, leave the bottom nipple vented to the atmosphere. If you want a "quick releasing" bov, then connect the bottom line to a boost source and you basically have a stock bov then.

Hope this makes sense!

I would recommend the NGR Type-S BOV. If you can wait till Black Friday they'll most likely have a sale like they did last year.

Run the Dodge Garage 1G valve. Worst-case scenario you'll have a little surge in very light on/off throttle conditions, but it will never need diaphragm or o-ring replacement like the "brand-name knockoff" that some are suggesting or the Forge valve you linked as well.

I ran a Forge before using the "correct" spring as recommended by them, and it worked fine but didn't seem to respond as fast as the 1G valve. Definitely not worth the heavy price tag. Without a doubt, the 1G DSM valve is the most-durable, most-versatile, and most-reliable recirculating valve on the market.

There is no real reason to upgrade a unless you are overrunning it. Even then there isnt solid information on how much airflow is necessary to overrun the stock 1g bov. Once dodge mod/gus modded it becomes a rock solid. Most of the stock type bolt on bov's including the greddy/ngr still has similar inlet diameter at the flange so unless your looking for a different sound, there isnt any real benifit.

I put the dodge modded BOV on and boost leak tested today to 30psi, it holds great. It seems to hold a lot more boost between shifts, too. It's supper fluttery though, it sounds like a velociraptor. Not that I mind, I actually like the sound.

I'm having a problem though. If I shift to neutral from boost (even like 4 or 5 psi), the car dies. Shifting to neutral from normal cruising is fine. It started when I swapped BOV's. No other changes. I'm still recirculating. Any ideas? Is the BOV just not letting enough boost go?

Wire in the stock bcs (remove pill) to the bottom port and have it triggred by a switch on the gas pedal. This will give you a stock functioning bov at everything but wot.

I added a line from the compressor housing to the lower nipple on the dodge modded bov. It's not fluttering anymore (it sounds more like stock) and it seems the car isn't dying when switching to neutral out of boost anymore, although it comes REALLY close (dips to like 500 rpm or so). Hopefully this works, I'll post an update later.
