I just picked up my first 15 gallons of E85 - a few questions.

I am running 1350cc injectors and -6an line from my bosch 044 pump to the rail.

Why kind of power will those injectors support along with that pump.

The next one is, I will be using my Cali pump gas map as my starting point, do most people just at 20% fuel to the map can try to fire the car?

I am also switching to hotter plugs and a smaller gap and everything else that is recommended in the Generic Info about E85. I am hoping to run 30psi on a 37r and about ~600awhp.

Is your bosch an in line or in tank. 1 in tank wont pump 600 whp worth of e85. As for the tuning. You don't want to just change your pump tune by 25%. On a gas scale i run 12.5:1 afr, and 20* of timing at 30 psi on e85, way more agressive than a gasoline based tune. Best way to tune e85 is to get a good afr you are comfortable with, 12:1 is great, then keep upping timing until you stop making more power. Then back off a * or two for saftey.

bosch 044 is intank.

I was just going to use my pumpgas map as a startup map. I figured if I add about 20-25% to the duty cycle I should be good to get the car started.

What size turbo are you running. I am on a 37r and on Q16 I can get about 13-14 degrees of timing at 35psi. Currently I am making in the high 600whp range. Tried to go to the dyno today but got jacked.

Your fuel pump will limit you before your injectors will. With just the 044 in tank, you will be limited to about 65 lbs/min of airflow, assuming 70 psi fuel pressure and a 12:1 equivalent AFR (~0.8 lambda).

That was a 16g e-85 tune. With a hx40 at 30+ psi boost levels i was tuning a gas scale 11.7 and timing was 17* peak. What you will find is that e-85 burns slow compared to gas based fuels, hence the need for more timing. A gasoline tune just compensated for injector duty, will make less power on e-85. The power comes from the increased torque alcohol produces from advancing the timing way past what mbt would be for gas.
I have seen tuners run way more agressive tunes than me. A local tuner runs 12.8:1, low to mid 20's timing, at full tilt on a 35r.

We started tuning my car the same way you want to. Setting the global 20% richer should get the car to run and safely. From there we leaned my car out to about 12.4:1 on e85 and started upping the timing. Due to the fact I have a 2.3l I was only able to run about 17* with the e85 but that beat the hell out of the 3* I was running with 91 at 10.5:1 AFR.

Ya, I am going to tune the hell out of the timing. I was more or less just trying to figure out how people wer going about doing the cut from pump to e85.

So when I went from cali 91 to Q16, I simply used the same map, and fired the car, got the afrs dialed in and then started working on the timing at the lowest boost setting, and then worked my way up to 35psi. It seems that it is the exact same process going from 91oct to e85, you just need to richen up your map by about ~20% and work from there.

Thanks for the info guys, and I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

If you go a bit richer like 12.0 you may be able to see good timing numbers. Maybe 20+* on cool intake temps.

E85 likes it lean. Lots of guys here making good power (including me) run between 12.0-12.5 afr on e85. Timing I wouldnt go to much above 22* but you should beable to run 35psi and up too 22* timing no problem as long as the motor can handle it on that turbo. I would start around 20psi and then work your way up once you have a strong timing map. It loves timing down low also.

So I started tuning on E85 today, and so far this stuff is pretty cool. I have been more focused on AFR's and knock then Timing.

So how did I get it all working.

I took my 35psi Q16 map, and I added 30% across the board. The engine fired right up. I was very supprised that it worked right away. It idles ok, still need to dail that in.

So far I am at about 16psi and ~400hp on VDR. I am pretty sure that I will have enough injector for 30psi but that looks like that will be the max boost I can run.

19-20psi I am making 492/359. I am only making afr changes to my q16 map. I will start tweaking the timing soon. But wow the car really like the e85.

I have put all of my maps up here:
