i did a search and came across this thread,im in the market for drag radials too..

my worst 60ft was 3.2 , my friends alway saw i sleep at the lights.. but the car stays put and spins the wheels. (have a full Koni setup)

my best 60ft was a 2.7 or something..

i was soo depressed last year at the track,im hoping to do way better this time.

then my buddy takes my car ad did a ET 0.8 secounds better than i ever did! on my car,yes using my car.. now thats depressing.

so, most people say Nitto 555s or Bfg s.. what about the Azenis?its an Autox tire but it has less grooves in it than the nottos/bfgs.. meaning more tire on the ground..??

what are you all running now/happy with/unhappywith?

Maybe I can lie to people and tell them I have a FWD. :shhh: :|

I drove a FWD once at the track and my AWD driving instinct of WOT out the gate just kicked in...spin...spin...spin...spin. :sosad: It was a stock Laser too. Now imagine if it had 400-500whp.

Raph, the azenis would be an improvement but the only problem with them is the super stiff sidewall. It is much more prone to wheel hop(super bad), and wheel spin. Mavisky has been using them at the strip with some pretty good results. If you are going to buy drag radials will these ge on the car all the time or only at the track??? I am running bfgs as my everyday tires and they are great for going straight but less than stellar when it comes to turning.

What psi are you running your tires at? What rpm you launching at??? You will want to have the rear tires over inflated and the front aired down to about 20psi, DO NOT do a burnout on street tires it will only make traction worse for you. With a smaller turbo I find revving the car between 3k and 3.5k works really well. Then just slip the shit out of the clutch. Ya it eats clutchs but you won't blow your diff/tranny and you won't get wheel spin/hop. It takes some practice and can be very frusterating trust me:cry: but in the end its worth it.

FWIW I was cutting 2.160's all day long on street radials and the stock tranny, it just takes practice and lots of it. Oh and don't go WOT in 1st your only hurting yourself by donig that.

Raph the

FWIW, I'll be trying some Khumo V700 Victoracers at the strip this year. Really they're stiff sidewall autox tires, but with a treadwear rating of 50 they should hook up ok, we'll see I suppose.

wow,thanks guys..

well im going with that vtrim that sbr sells, got my fmic, and ill be practicing my launches when everything gets here and i install it on the car.

ill be using a second pair of wheels for the track

i kept having serious wheelhop with the 17s i had on there, the whole exhaust knoking on the floor pan LOL,i also kept full throttle in first gear..

Full throttle in 1st gear is useless. Calm down and learn some throttle control.

personally i like FWD...everyone always thinks is sooooo hard, and when they see a FWD DSM, they automatically think it cant be fast...def. work on your launches. i dont have a hard time at all hitting consistant 2.0s on the street tires and i also have a set of nitto 555r 245x45x16...i have been hitting 1.70s with those. not bad for no LSD, and no slick...Dont worry man you'll get it. To me FWD is easy to handle, because the wheels powering the car also steer, you dont get into trouble as much (i have a 240sx, the only way to get going straight again when you get thrown sideways from spinning is letting go of the gas)
i mean of course AWD is very good at handling also.

Ah, yes. I've come to accept the disadvantage of FWD on the track long, long ago. I'd rather go from a roll anyway. ;)

Maybe for you, as I'm too damn worried about snapping something on the track again. Which is why I've not been back in well over a year.......

Now granted, I know I have to get better at that, but not at the expense of tearing my car apart....vicious cycle, but whatever.

I don't have upgraded axles if that is what you are trying to say. I go on stock axles with slicks. 24.5" slicks or drag radials won't break an axle unless they have had some previous damage or if you are side stepping the clutch.

No, I'm not saying that. It's just me. As much as I've tried, I'm just plain flat-out horrible launching on the track. I thought I needed axles until a good friend of mine took a few trips down the track in my car. Netted better 60's, and 1/4 times than me.......I just suck. :(

I'm not sure what'side stepping is', but when I've damaged the car at the track in the past, it's always been trans related. I've repaired it and threw a LSD in there, but that was a long time ago. Haven't been to the track since that.

wow,1.7s 60ft times??? awesome!

see guys, some of the Drag radials sold in the states go by different names here, some of the tires too (ask the marketing guys bout that one)

i know that hardley any dealers sell Bf Goodrich.. i might have to order em online.. i dont want any super expensive michelin slicks, i can get 4 or 6 BFgs for the price of 2 Michelin or Dunlop slicks (there good, but i think the name brand markup are on those)

Well, the track opens in may,im hoping that SBR ships my stuff out so i an be ready by then. .. spring started today and im itchin to drive
