Wow what a difference it is to race a car on the track, and race a car in the street. Especially when there's a transam with giant hoosier's in the next lane over. This was the first time at the track and I really as hoping for better. By comparison, it looks like my trap speeds, with better launches, will get me deep into the 13's on street tires :thumb: one last try this friday at island dragway before the seasons over.

and I hate FWD. it sucks.

temp: 68 friggin degrees
RT: .521
60': 2.625
330: 6.369
1/8: 9.335
MPH: 84.52
1000: 11.811
1/4: 13.956
MPH: 105.27

that is all. goodnight and let's all go buy slicks now :tease:

damn gotta work on those launches, are you running lean though?

yeah traction is very hard to get in fwd. i drive around my friends gst sometimes and i slip the clutch like i normally do and it just sits their and spins. huge diffrence between awd and fwd.

Wow, that time slip is almost identical to mine LOL. i mean within hundredths on every part. ROFL and yes, FWD blows

Yeah mastering a FWD launch takes some practice, get some slicks or some good drag radials and give it another try. You should see low 13s with a decent launch, good luck man.

I really am thinking its my launch. I was trying to hold it at 2.5k or 3k and feathering the clutch, but I got too excited and just stepped the clutch out too quickly and not enough throttle.

I figured out that the way I can best launch my car is by goosing the throttle and slipping the clutch... not holding it.. anyone ever try that? I seem to get much better launches that way. I'll be trying it next time I go

you guys are right....my 1st time at the track i cut a 2.7 60' with my fwd....on stock tires...i wanna get some drag radials as well....also just for thought....wut gear do u guys finish the 1/4 mile in? Do u go into 4th or what? lemme know.

Try putting 400 to the tire and coming off the line. Not fun, even with my slicks. However, if your looking for a decent pair of wheel and slick set up, mine is for sale. They would be perfect for a 300whp car and would produce sub 2.0 60 footers however my car just over powers them.

Keep working at it. 105 mph is a strong 12 second performer with traction.

now that i have the 225/50/15 drag radials i finish in 4th about 6400rpm

i usually cross in 3rd.... but my gears are a bit longer than stock. i've tried hiitting 4th early but that hurts more than helps.

and for me, the best way to launch is to hold it at 3k (right where the turbo starts to spool) then slip the clutch and hit WOT. that way i launch with full boost, but 1st gear sucks no matter what. my fastest 60' was 2.4something when i shifted into 2nd gear before the 60' light.

Ah yes the trials and tribulations of trying to launch a fwd. Well let's see if thoery is correct if you can cut your 60ft to a 2.0(which is very possible even on street tires) you should be at a 12.7 which is a great time. Here is my advice I would launch at 5k and just slip the shit out of the clutch. Since you hjave a bigger turbo launching at a lower rpm would be worse because after you get going you would bog then you would hit full boost not long after causing you to spin the tires. And don't worry about not getting a good time to first time out, hell event he second or third time out. Just work on focusing on your car and the tree and getting your launches down. Try to pretend like the car next to you isn't there it makes it way easier to focus on everything. I seem to do better at the track than on the street, maybe i'm just weird though.

You never want to hit full throttle in first and almost alwasy second gear in a fwd unless you have slicks

I agree, don't worry about the clown next to you, just focus on being ready yourself and leaving the line cleanly. On my fastest mph run so far my r/t was a 2.216 because I was waiting to get the rpm's right where I wanted them. The funny thing is that I still ran down the wrx I was lined up against since his r/t was a 1. something :tease:

Carefull on that stock tranny, i just had my 4th stock tranny go out on me so now im just waiting to buy a tre tranny, last time at the track with m/t drag radials was the last straw for the last tranny to bite the dust, the diff grenaded and blew a hole in the housing. Id recommend if you plan on keeping that tranny in working condition stay with sticky street radials.

thanks for the comments guys..

anyone have any opinions on running green dot retreads? this car is not daily driven anymore, btw.

I brought it up one time and it didn't exactly get a very welcome response by people because of the fact that the tread COULD come off halfway down the strip causing you to loose control of you car and smash inot the wall and what not. I would say as long as your only using them at the strip you should be fine but I wouldn't use them for cruising around on the street even if it is your weekend car.

my low 12 second dreams are currently fading. My personal best was a 13.6 with a 2.45 60' on 16" falken azenis @ 107mph. I have hit 108mph before on a 13.9 run. Im still working on my technique, but those damn lights fall so quick, especially when the dick head next to me is already fully staged. :notgood:

I dream of BF goodrich KD's at night.....and wake up pissed off at my goodyears :barf:

BTW, Im on my second tranny. I blew the diff on the first one. Its funny how things add up really fast when modding and racing DSMs.

^^^ I like your valve cover!(not joking check mine out haha). Do youhave an LSD or are you trying this on the stock open diff?? that makes a huge differance. Plus if you really want to run good times in a FWD you HAVE to have slicks or drag radials its not an option. I don't know what your mods are since you haven't filled out your profile but if you have adjustable shocks put full stiff in the rear full soft in the front.

How in the world are you busting diffs running high 13's

"60': 2.625" Oh my GAAAWWWDDD I sure am glad that i have never owned a fwd car :p
