i have 2 different friends that are selling their turbos one has a bolt on 35r(i think pte) that is selling it for $900, and the other has a hx35 for $400. which one should i get. im looking for 450-500 awhp or mid 11s in a 1/4. i have a 57trim turbo that suckks so bad im not getting 20psi til like 4000rpms but id like atleast a little faster spool up.
thanks for the help

Which turbine housing is on the HX35?

The two choices you've listed will most likely not reach full boost until near or beyond the 4k mark, although both compressors will outperform the E57 as long as the HX35 has the newer 7-blade compressor wheel.

You need to choose whether you want 3500rpm spool or 50+ lb/min of airflow. You can't have both.

i would be putting the BEP bolt on housing. your right, well i think id rather have flow than a faster spool cause im use to it already. both buddies drive autos so when would both turbos reach 20psi?

We're at the tipping point of bench racing...careful.

Your getting ripped... you can get a 6262 which has a billet wheel for cheaper than that 35r..
Yeah $900 for a used ball-bearing 35R isn't that great of a deal. New ones can be had for $200-$300 more.

Sorry.. was suppose to say i love lame holsets ROFL
The HX35 (you have a HX40 pictured) is really in a class all it's own. Nothing Garrett makes in a journal-bearing turbo comes close to the spool and airflow it can generate out-of-the-box; and the HX35/40 comes standard with a 360* thrust plate for better durability.

I must say, for someone who's quick to react when someone suggests using a Holset in another thread, you have no problem infiltrating an otherwise HTA-less thread with childish drawings.

no not yet pretty good turbo tho?

Yea, I'd look at the Extended Tip ones. Little more, but spool is improved. I doubt you'd be interested but the one I'm looking at in the future is the BW S256 E/T. Flows a little more than a 50 trim so I doubt it's what you're looking for. But the S300's you should probably read up on.

Just so you know, I was actually debating getting a 35r or a HX35 so I'm glad you posted this thread! :thumb:

Another great choice.

The S259 is quite an impressive beast for it's size- Dsmmatt28 made just shy of 500 to the wheels on a Mustang dyno at just 30psi with a S259ETT.

no prob man, so which one were you leaning torward 35r or hx35? im kinda leaning the 35r side cause my friend has an 92auto tsi and he just ran 11.4 and i dont know about the holset cause he hasnt been to the track yet. and if im not mistaking 5speeds are faster than autos. but i know people with autos are finding ways to put down some # hahahah

Go with the holset like everyone else is saying. The HX35 is a beast. It was made to spool with coolder exhaust from a desiel so when you put it on a gas motor the spool is unreal for a turbo in that class and with that spool time and the flow this thing is capable of you wont find anything else to match it. If you would like more info on the holet turbos just type holset into the search and click on the one that says holset thread part 6 or 7. These threads are filled with info and by the time you get done reading them Im sure you will be convinced. They are also very durable and its half the price. Holsets are awsome!!!!

You should be able to reach your goals of 1/4 mile times with the setup you have. I have an evo 3, injectors, and nothing else power wise, and consistantly trap 110 with a full stock exhaust. I've had a car that had a t28, big16g, evo3 16g, 14b, hx40, and gt35r on it with every other part of the setup the same. In my opinion the hx40 in a bolton housing was a better street turbo than the t3 35r.

To be honest, I lack a lot of knowledge of Holset's and 35r's. I couldn't even tell you how much they flow, but I know the power they can make and spool times. I know the Holsets are reliable but I've also seen them blown up. If it was me I'd go with whatever's cheaper, and I strongly recommend reading up on how you oil the turbo. It is a key factor in the turbo's life expectancy. I must say that's a little much for the 35r but I know you can find Holsets for a good deal, even $300.

If you were asking me what I'm leaning towards in the future it would be a BW. Great reliability and great spool. Too many people have the 35r's and the Holsets and I'm always tryin' to be different but DO NOT let that effect your choice, that's just my opinion.
