hx35 or bolt on 35r

the holsets that have been blowing up are results of poor oiling feed and drain system. there's a thread explaining all of these. but if you look at those who are running/have run their holsets with the correct feed/drain system, they're still going strong.

im biased coz i got an hx35 7 blade with bep bolt on housing rebuilt by justin. it's with me now but i havent installed it yet.

it's cheaper. i got mine for a total of $700 that includes the brand new bep bolt on housing, new rebuilt parts, restrictor and stainless steel oil feed line from the OFH (thanks jus!!!!). im pretty sure if you're patient then you can get a cheaper one.

if you really want a best of both worlds (spool and flow) use the stock t3 housing and get a divided exhaust mani for it.

i love my HX35 im sure you will be happy with one too!!

i would be putting the BEP bolt on housing. your right, well i think id rather have flow than a faster spool cause im use to it already. both buddies drive autos so when would both turbos reach 20psi?

You're used to the flow? Both turbos outflow the 57trim in bolton form:)

So I would get the hx35. Remember, just because the gt35r shares the same numerals as the hx35 does not mean that they are similar in flow and spool.

WRT the hx35, the bolton 8 blade spools slightly faster than the bolton 7blade; both seeing 20ish before 3800rpms. The 7blade flows 60lb/min, the 8blade 52lb/min. Both compressors can net your goal. You'd be hard pressed to see close to the flow of the 7blade with the bolton housing. But the bolton housing can easily keep up with your goal. So the 7blade is a waste if you are specifically looking for it and want to only have the turbo be bolton for the life of your setup.

If this guy is selling you a 7blade hx35 for $400, definately get it. You will have room to grow far beyond your goal with a t3 setup. And have it bolton and fast spooling in the mean time. If it's an 8blade, it's still a great turbo for your current goal. So don't be leary of getting. Plenty have net your same goal with that turbo. Plus slightly faster spool.

I'd not buy any bolton gt35r turbo except one from fp. The PTE bolton housing really is rather pathetic. You'll be GREATLY inhibiting flow without even gaining that much spool speed.

I would look on the cummins fourms as well if you are looking to get a holset. I picked one up for 150 bucks shipped.

wow you guys are awesome. i never thought id say this but you guys changed my mind im def going to get the hx35, my last question is does anyone know if the bullseye power bolt on housing wil fit the hx35?

so with my mods and 20psi would i be able to make my goal.

It would feel pretty confident to say that NONE of these turbos mentioned is going to net you you're goal of 450-500whp on only 20psi with your setup.

I would work on possibly tuning your lowend to see if spoolup can be improved. If you've got the fuel system, I would also suggest trying to tune at a few more psi.
