Hello everyone, I have a problem where the oil is leaking through the exhaust housing on my HX40. I've searched through the forums and found a similar thread where it ended up being his drain hose. I'll attach some photos for visuals but I originally thought that the small kink in my drain line would cause enough restriction so that the turbo can't drain. After removing the drain line a decent amount of oil leaked out of the drain fitting on the pan. I have a photo of the dipstick after letting it drain as much as it could. This is a 6 bolt motor in a 2g awd car. Not sure if the 6bolt swap changes the motor angle, if so it may screw me over. I don't really feel too comfortable running my oil level so low. Can anyone offer their opinion or advice?

Thank you so much

I forgot to add some important information. I am feeding from ofh with a 4an line with a restrictor at the turbo, drain is a 12AN with the rtm flange on the oil pan. I've done everything but check the oil pressure at the feed line(I don't really have the means of doing this easily.) I did some more research about the oil level in the oil pan but there's no clear information on this site regarding my specific topic/question. I heard someone say that the oil level is going to be higher then the drain on the pan, if this is true then how does everyone else's turbos drain fine?

Your drain is the likely culprit. I can't quite tell for sure due to the rubber hose connecting the top and bottom fittings but they look horribly misaligned causing a restriction and essentially turning your -12an into a much smaller drain.

Thank you for the advice, I've ordered some new parts for the drain. I'm hoping that fixing the drain will resolve my issue. I may have to clock the turbo center housing a bit to get a more ideal drain alignment.

I have the same drain that you have pictured and swapped it out for a MorrisonFab drain kit. It is so easy to work with and great quality and fit. @MorrisonFab has other really cool stuff for DSM's also! :thumb:

Yes, the -12An is to bulky to mess with. Before I went to a 12AN drain I ran a stock tube with the flex part cut out and a rubber line, but it would not drain sufficiently for the feed. I have the same 12AN setup still but swapped it out for the much easier to work with Morrison drain (which also cocks the drain up a bit, not flat at the pan).

I had a similar issue with my previous -10AN steel braided setup. I swapped over to a -12 push lock with a bit more planning with the degrees and routing. Haven’t had issues yet but I’ll be swapping it out for the Morrison kit for simplicity on my next oil change
Yeah everything seems to be pointing to the drain, I just mkdified it today and it seems to be a lot better for now. Long term I will also get the Morrison kit

Just an FYI for those reading if they don’t know, on a 1g oil pan the factory size oil drain hole is 5/8” which is equivalent to 10an, before installing my MorrisonFab drain I drilled out my drain hole to 3/4” on a new Spectra oil pan which I obviously cleaned before installing LOL for a true 12an drain from turbo to pan:)

For sure the drain.
I just want to know what that is? So a AN adapter into a smaller adapter or is that one piece?

That's a fitting sourced from RTM its a one piece. A 12AN adaptor.

While 12AN is ample-sized, if the small hose section is kinked or misaligned it's potentially draining less-effectively than an unkinked 10AN. Another key ingredient is crankcase pressure...if there's anything causing the engine's crankcase pressure to be high, whether it be something like valve seals or an undersized PCV system, it won't matter if the drain is the size of a fire hose because the turbo won't drain if the engine is attempting to breathe through the drain tube.
