So im doing a full build and the motor is from a 95 gsx auto. when i pull the crank out i notice it has split thrust bearings?

i was under the impression only 97+ had the split bearings? the head has the CAS on the cam gear and everything looks original and the prev. owner said nothing had been changed?

could it be maybe the short block was changed out? (it really looks like it wasn't) or do i have some sort of weird anomaly here?

If your engine has a 4 piece thrust bearing (3 piece top side) then the block must have come from a 98+ car as the split thrust bearing blocks weren't out in 95-96, and also you can't use the split thrust bearing in anything other than the blocks that used them.

you're probably right; the short block was probably changed out, maybe it suffered crank walk.

either way this is a good thing.:)
