I cant figure out how to get the damn mounting bracket off of it. I tried going through the top by removing the battery and I cant get to it. I need to replace it and i dont feel like paying a shop 80 bucks to do it.

It is a lot easier if you take the battery holster out and the emmisions stuff as well. You will have to remove those because if you think the top one is hard the bottom one is even harder. If you think you are going to strip or break something just bite it and pay the shop 80 to do it now before you mess it up and have to pay them 200 because it is stripped and takes them forever.

My new filter came with a new mounting bracket already attached. I'd hate to have to try to get the old one out of its bracket with it still in the car. Can you take the lines off and take it out the car and then worry about getting the bracket off?

I cant get it out at all. The bottom line is not coming off at all. I should just pay them i guess.

Sounds obvious, but make sure you're actually grabbing the bolt itself, and not the bottom part of the fuel filter. When I was changing mine (in the dark, no less) it took me a few minutes to realize that I was actually trying to turn the bottom of the filter and not the bolt :toobad:

Use a flare wrench and some PB Blast, and it should come loose.
