How to make a GST beat a stock Mustang GT?

I have a 95 GST and i want to know what mods it would take for me to beat a stock 99-04 mustang GT. (Assume 5-speed)

My plans are intake, exhaust, 1g BOV, down-pipe, (getting rid of the catalytic converter) boost controller and boost gauge.

This race is also assuming from a roll. (40-45ish)

What else do you think i would need, or is this close?

Street racer bench racing stuff.:shhh:

What turbo do you have? If its a t25 you might want to get a 16g. You would probably be pretty close with out it though. You will also hit a speed limiter around 135mph unless you mod your ECU (or get a gsx ECU). I use to race my brother in law in his 02 GT (auto) but we use to race from a dig. I only had intake and a shitty small exhaust. I would get a big jump on him (probably due to him spinning) and I could hold him off all the way untill I hit the speed limiter.

PS: bench racing is a no no :)

I drove an 04 Mustang GT once, and I would've been very suprised to pull any stock GST. That thing was slow -- torqueless and powerless. The only thing that seemed like it should be performance oriented was the very heavy clutch feel. 4.6's are about the lamest V8 ever; I will never understand why Ford quit an engine as good as the 302 was.

I thought this only pertained to a 1G?

No it also pertaines to 2g's. The GST's did not come with Z rated tire so they had to be speed limited from factory. I dont remember what the last year was that you could actually mod your ECU (I want to say 96 or 97....Cut out the resistor). I know that my 98 ECU could not be modded so I bought a 97 GSX ecu and ran that. My speedo was 5 mph off but I didnt have a speed limiter on so I could live with it.

All that's left is a mod to close this thread. That's it my friend. :)

:dsm:

mmhmm!
check the rules about the forums and you will see that it is not wise to talk about being involved with illegal/illicit activities, ESPECIALLY street racing. helllooooooo?!:toobad:

but yea haha check the upgrade paths up on the top left corner where it says: tech.
:sneaky:

Everyone needs to relax...I never said one word about racing on the street...I also never said i was going to race a mustang GT in general...

The reason why i asked the question like this, is because I'm trying to get a general idea about trap speed. Being FWD, it stinks compared to RWD on the track...I would get murdered from the line even with good mods against a good mustang driver and good tires...

But, i don't care about this...I just want my car to be able to trap about 98-100mph and have the top end equivalent, if not better than a 99-04 GT.

This is not bench racing...I'm merely asking a question pertaining on getting my car to a particular speed...

I have looked at stickies and all over online...I have not found anything that has to do with this question...It's simple really...

Basically, how do you trap 98-100mph with a GST?

Is a turbo upgrade necessary? I don't want to get one, because i leave for the navy in June, so it seems like a waste to get a turbo. I wanted to stick with more basic things, since the car already had intake and exhaust...The other stuff i mentioned isn't too expensive...

Pulling someone on the highway doesn't exactly count as street racing.

So everyone on tuners only mods there car for the track? I'm sure.

well i suppose technically that won't count as street racing, but you try explaining that to highway patrol and see what they think ;)

and i'm absolutely positive that not everybody on this forum mods for track use only, i'm simply stating that it's not the best idea to discuss about partaking in potentially illegal activities. nuff said.

This is still considered bench racing.

And you didn't necessarily have to say "street racing" considering you said you'd be starting from a roll. At least in my mind, that's what instantly popped up.

My guess is you should be able to achieve that trap with a pretty much stock car. You can see my mods in my profile as well as my trap speed. If you really want to know, take your car to a local dyno and see how long it takes you get to 100mph. You should also be able to kind of calculate a quarter mile by the odometer/trip.

Lastly, just go out to a track when they open and run. This is the best way to figure it out.

I would do the other upgrades such as exhaust, injectors, and GOOD tuning before getting a bigger turbo and see what that does for you.

You could just find a 14B turbo cheap. They are considerably better than the crappy T25. When I upgraded the 13G on my 1G auto car to a 14B, I noticed a huge difference before turning up the boost or doing any other mods such as exhaust or tuning.

Drive it real fast. :D

Considering the hairdryer that's currently powering your car, you may want to think about upgrading to at least a Small 16G if you're planning on touching 100mph in the 1320.

Hairdryer huh? This guy's cool. :toobad:

Replace the upper intercooler pipe, it's very restrictive by the airbox/sidemount intercooler. Just get a new pipe with the 1g bov flange. Not sure if they are still available but the DAVE BRODE UICP is a great pipe for dirt cheap. Also, do a 14b swap when you get a chance. Great and CHEAP upgrade from the stock t25 turbo.

Cooler than this thread. :notgood:

You're surprised that a T25 is being compared to a hairdryer?

Would yall believe that i beat GT's in my 420a, because i seriously did....

I'd love to see that, considering a stock GT can run in the 13's and the fastest all-motor 420a-powered Eclipse runs 13's as well, and it's in bare-bones race form.

Justin knows more about turbos than most people on this forum. If he says your turbo is a hairdryer (which is is), then you can pretty much bet on it.

As for running on the highway, if a cop saw you doing it, would he probably arrest you for street racing? Yup.

And do we know what combination of modifications will allow your car to beat another car? Nope. Bench racing.
