How to lower my car? What struts/springs to buy?

Okay, my struts are horrible, i know this because my car almost bottoms out on minor bumps. So ive been looking around at coilovers, struts, springs, and lowering springs. I really want to get lowering springs, but im afraid they are a little pricey. It would just be great to raise and lower my car when i want. So with coilovers being to expensive, my search has turned to struts and new springs. I went to a shop to get an estimate, and was told it would cost 700 to get the front and the rear struts replaced with monroe struts, which includes labor, but i would have to keep my stock springs. That sounded a little high to me, and i dont want to keep stock springs. I want to lower my car. So i need a little help. To lower my car, do i just buy struts like normal, like maybe some kyb's or something, and then lowering springs. My questions are how do i know if the springs i buy will work with my struts, and what brands are good. What do you guys think. I know its a lot of info, but i need some input. Feel free to throw out some recommendations for struts and springs.

As I pointed out previously, that's $170 for each strut insert, not for a pair. The cost of a set of Koni's will be over $600. Having said that, they are well worth the money if you can afford them. Lifetime warranty and rebuildable. Tokico's are only for 2G's, the only direct replacement 1G options I know of (aside from your standard auto parts store brands) are KYB (GR-2 or AGX) and Koni.

I had Suspension Techniques springs on my old 1G, and went cheap with Gabriel struts from Sears. The struts blew in like 3 days. I got a set of GR2's and never had any problems with them. I think the springs gave like a 1" drop.

At the minimum, get some GR-2's. There are some cheaper spring options out there than the Pro-Kit, but you can search the forum to form your own opinion.

Sorry i should have listed the price as each. But yes i know the rears are no longer available, hence the reason i listed the 2g rears...

when you say they dont last as long with lowering spring how much life am i losing

It all depends on the car and the type of driving you do. There isn't an exact length of time they will last, I wish there was. In my opinion, I would say at least a few years.

Thanks guys. I will probably just buy the gr2's now, and wait on the springs for a bit. I am in desperate need of new struts, and can get the gr2's for 190 which is a great price. And for my driving, i work just a few miles from my house, and don't do to much driving after work. I stay in town most of the time, and am not to hard on my car. However you gotta get on it every once in awhile and have some fun. It sounds like the gr2 and mild lowering kit will work just fine, according to you guys. Thanks a bunch.

Oh, and are there any other mild lowering kits out there you guys would recommend besides the eibachs. I can google stuff all i want, but would like some recommendations from experience.

i have kyb's on mine and it has basically a 1.5in drop. good struts, strong and reliable. i rarely hear of them blowing out.

If im going to use eibachs sportline with a 2 inch drop...some struts and shocks have different travel lengths. When lowered, do i want shocks/struts at a higher or lower travel ?
