So recently I noticed a burning smell coming from my engine when I was driving. I know I have a small oil leak so my brain automatically went to "Oh no, I'm about to overheat my engine", the fact that white smoke was coming from under my hood didn't help. So I got home, popped my hood and noticed immediately my spark plug cover was missing. I found it....melted to my heat shield and getting under it. I couldn't think of how this happened until I looked at my valve cover and noticed that some of the holes where the screws go had actually broken in half vertically so that there was only half a thread. I am wondering if there is any way to fix these, I do not have the pieces that broke off or the screws, or if I have to buy a new valve cover for this to work. I know I don't need the spark plug cover but I personally like it and eventually want to get a custom one so when I do I'd to have screw holes to mount it too. Any and all help is appreciated.

+1 for new cover. They are prone to easily cracking/ breaking even when tightening them down if torqued too much.

I just picked up a VC from another member in perfect shape for 50$ Mine had a small crack and one bolt hole casing was busted.
Clean it all up, paint it, call it a day!

You can find modded valve covers for 75-200ish.

I drilled the holes on my valve cover to make room for studs, installed studs with a small amount of jb weld & put washers and nuts. Done

It worked for me, i didn't feel like buying a new valve cover after mine was recently powdered.

Job weld is an option. It would be covered and can be drilled. (Not easy to drill and tap). Or as stated acquire another valve cover. And while youre in there fix the oil leak.

From the name I would figure you are from alabama? If so and u need a valve cover I'm in guntersville all of us around here try to lend a hand and keep each other going

Definitelgo go with a new valve cover
They are pretty cheap and lots out there
Make sure you don't torque the bolts down to much
They really don't need more then 8ft lbs if that
