hey everyone gonna make my own spark plug cover in my computerized torch cutting class but i dont know how to get the right chamfer (the sqaure edges) and fillets (round edges) if anyone can give me the right measurements i would be very grateful

Don't you know how to use a measuring tape..Or trace the stock spark plug cover on cardboard..Then go from there..

He may not have one anymore, which may be why he considered making one in the first place.

If I remember and am not being lazy I'll go take measurements for you.

ok..umm ya i do but i was never taught how to figure out chamfer or fillets unless it was on a blueprint and i have the original spark plug cover so im going off that. I got all the measurements but the chamfer and fillets. I guess it was a bad idea to ask because i didnt know someone on here was gonna be a dick about it...

ok man all i need is the the edges i got everything else. like i said i have the original cover but i want a unique addition to my bay

I wasn't trying to be a dick..I just thought a measruing tape or tracing the stock one would help you out..

You are correct tho..The edges do have a curve to them.. Whick sucks, if your going to try and get it right..You can always make the edges flat, and then cut from there to make it fit..

But if your going to be using a computer cutting torch..That's going to be a little tough, withought putting the right curve into the computer..

What I'm wondering is if you are in a school class for it, couldn't you ask your teacher how to get those measurements?

I'd still like to see what you come up with though :thumb:

Definatly interested in what you come up with. Worst case scenario you could cut out the crude shape with the machine then do the rest by hand as precise as possible. PICS!

this is what im gonna do, i have to cut all 3 pieces seperate then tig weld them:) its gonna be a process but will be worth it:) im debating wether i should cut out the letter on the lifted part or should i cut out individual letters and put little screws on them to have it lifted. also i winded up asking the teacher its just so hard to ask him for help when everybody in the class is asking him.

let me know what you guys think about it any input would be sweet:)

You could cut it square and take a wizard wheel / sanding pad with an angle grinder to it to perfect it. That way you are not wasting materials if you f it up... You can always take more off, you can't put back on.

BTW: The design looks pretty slick

i got all the angles pretty spot on, its just that big round area near the oil cap i need to get that in there. what do you think about the lettering should i have it lifted off the material or just cut in out of the material?

IMO I would leave it solid and etch in the letters. Unless you have spot on precision with cutting the letters or have a way to precisely cut it. It would look awesome to cut out the letters if it is done right.

thats the thing with computerized torch cutting is if i outline the letter perfectly then the computer will cut them out percisley

LOL i hope it does to:) maybe one day ill make them in my free time:)

LOL should i start a new thread for it when it comes or should i just post it on this thread

Post it here. no need for extra clutter when searching :)

ya ive decided to cut out the letters it will look alot smoother:) this kid in my class is ridiculous he has his ipod turned up full blast so everyone can listen to his lame ass music from disturbed which i listened to when i was like 12...LOL
