Spark Plug Cover Differences

Well the consensense has been Mits came with the mits cover..And the lasers and talons came with the line...

But we still have to figure out exactly which cars which cover came on...

Anyone figure this out yet? I REALLY wanna know which one came on mine.. .. shopping for a replacement, of course... would love to have the correct one.

As an FYI, the 1g spark plug cover's part number has been superseded by the 2g's. So even if you tried to order a Mitsubishi one, you'll get the line one that the 2g's had.

And neither of those part numbers matched what Scott pulled from the Chrysler program.

According to ASA, the one with red stripe (MD124766) came on Mitsubishi vehicles including early FWD 1G Eclipses (up to, but not including, build dates of March '89), 2.0L Galants.

I have a Galant block in my car, so I have the correct cover for my engine (VIN verified). My car is supposed to come with MD154222 and I know I have some other ones floating around I can check later.

The 2G Eclipse part number, MD316138, has also superseded the "other" 1G part number (as Brian mentioned), MD154222. Based strictly on the photos in ASA, the "other" 1G (MD154222, EDIT: verified to say Mitsubishi with "gold" lettering) is the one that says Mitsubishi on it (see also: http://cgi.ebay.de/Mitsubishi-Eclip...731761643?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item4aad1a4beb). The 2G cover would have the line without color. EDIT: and already I find things that suggest this isn't totally correct, so forget that, I guess.

2G Talon part number is MD316137; the difference between this piece and the Eclipse piece is that this one, the Talon part, does not say "MITSUBISHI" and has a natural colored stripe on it, similar to the 1G cover with the red stripe.

All of them are pretty well confirmed in my book, except the 2G Talon cover. This is how it appears to me:

MD124766 is the one with the red stripe and was not used on 2Gs.
MD154222 is the one with "Mitsubishi" in gold, I believe is the correct color. This is for all 1G, 2.0L Eclipses produced after February of 1989.
MD316138 is the one with "Mitsubishi" in black. This is the original for 2G 4G63 Eclipses.
MD316137 is the one with the natural (black) colored stripe. This is the original for 2G 4G63 Talons.

MD146678 is the AMG cover for the 4G63, found across the pond on Galants or Eternas between 1989 and 1993.

Anyone want to confirm the part number for the black-striped one?

-The one with red was early model (before a build date of March '89) 1G Eclipses. Every other 1G 2.0L Eclipse came with "Mitsubishi" in gold lettering. This also came on Galants and some of the 1.6L Mirages (C53A models). Taking what Scott (Lofty) posted previously, the 1G Talons and 1G Lasers also used the red-striped cover.

-Again, the "Mitsubishi" in gold lettering was originally in all 1G Eclipses after a build date of March '89. This has been replaced by the black-lettered 2G Eclipse cover. This one also appeared in some of the 1.6L Mirages (C63A models).

-The "Mitsubishi" with black letters is for all 2G 4G63 Eclipses. No break between 2Ga and 2Gb, according to ASA. Even a 1995 GST produced at the end of June 1994 has this listed as the correct part. So unless ASA is "too new" and a the change was programmed into it, I'm going to believe that all 2G 4G63 Eclipses had this cover. This has since replaced the gold-lettered 1G Eclipse cover.

-The one with the black stripe came on 2G 4G63 Talons. This one I'm not absolutely positive about, but it's logical because a Chrysler-badged car wouldn't want a Mitsubishi stamp on top of its engine. Take the 1G Talon and Laser for example, since they only used the cover with the red stripe.
