I painted my spark plug cover today and oil cap and it came out pretty nice. It's the first thing I've done thats actually come out pretty good. I just got some acrylic paint, brushed it on, scraped off the parts I messed up with my pocket knife, and sprayed some clear coat on them.

Next, making the heat shields black...

That is badass...

I recently did mine too, but I'm not very good with a razor blade..So some of the paint from the mits letters is not all on the letters..

Looks pretty good! Hope your heat shields aren't rusted, cause that will mean more prep work before paint. I did mine a month ago....then the gf bumped it in the garage and down it went on the floor....chipped the paint and I have to redo it again.

I used the VHT High temp paint, what will you be using for the heat shields?

I just freehand painted it on, no razor. My mom is a painter and has really nice little detail brushes. I'm proud of my patience.

I have some BBQ grill paint around here somewhere that's rated for like 800 degrees f. Will that work for the shields? How do they come off, it looks like the dipstick is in the way. They are rusted a little in little specks. I hate rust. It looks so trashy, that's why I wanna paint em!

To take mine off I took the two bolts out, pulled the dipstick a bit towards the front, pulled the shield towards the front and off. You might need to grab it from the bottom as it has a curvature that conforms to the exhaust manifold to make sure it doesn't move much. You'll also need to push the radiator hose a bit as you're doing it as it will be in the way (no need to take it off).

Not sure on the bottom heat shield, mine didn't have one (bought one recently and painting that when I repaint the top heat shield). I think that will work (your paint), I usually stick with automobile paints though. I also used a high temp clear coat, but that's just because I'm picky on looks.

Notice the bump on the front and the scrape on the right side :banghead:

Free hand..Why Did I not think of that..:banghead:

I did the whole prep job (removing any rust, sanding it down to a nice clean finish). Then I did 3 coats of black high temp VHT (with one hour drying time in between, wasn't all that dry out) and 2 coats of clear VHT high temp paint. I was super happy with the result...until it got dropped

Mine it told me to bake in oven.Or since it was bbq paint, turn on the bbq...But I just used the high temp paint my mom had laying around..It's very bland and not black black like that..I think I may have to pick up this vht high temp paint and clear..

Well you will need to heat it for the paint to cure perfectly. Once my coats were finished, I left them a couple of days to dry by air, then slapped them on the exhaust manifold and let my engine heat it up to temperature. Left it for an hour drive and she was good to go. Should have left it on there, but I wanted to get creative with the hand design afterwards.

I like everything to have a really clean "stock" look. I like the heat shield you did there, it looks pretty hot haha. I don't know if I would like it flat black or with a little bit of shine.

*Edit: What are you doing with the hand design? I think outlining it in white or silver would look pretty good.

This thread makes me wish I didn't have an fp manifold LOL. The spark plug cover looks great too though.
