How to disconnect the clutch master cylinder.

I am removing my clutch pedal assembly following this vfaq: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...r/389980-1g-clutch-pedal-removal-install.html

but when I get to the part where he says "While over there you may was well disconnect the clutch master cylinder. I find it easier to un-screw the rod than to fiddle with the cotter pin holding this together." I don't understand what I'm doing here. Can anyone explain how I go about unscrewing this? I believe it's the bottom circle.

I'm not seeing how I go about unscrewing the master cylinder like he recommended. I'll take a look for the cotter pin and see where that gets me.

There's no way I'm ever going to get that cotter pin back on there if I take it off. I'm going to stick with trying to turn the rod. Looks like I'm going to have to get some vice grips for this.

So vice grips don't work either. It looks like if I disconnect the fluid reservoir I can unscrew it from the engine compartment.

So that didn't work either. I can't even get to the cotter pin to pull it. Any recommendations on how to get the rod to unscrew?

Got it. There's a 12mm nut on the rod that you can't see unless your head is where your gas pedal usually is. Once I loosened that, it was easy.

Yep, 3 bolts that hold it in. Two from the engine bay , and a nut above the pedal. Then the little 'U' bracket on top of the clutch pedal and out it comes!

Atleast that is what I remember...
