Okay guys, everyone knows that having a 2G Spyder is great, except when it comes to having subs, no trunk space :thumbdown . So here is a box that will fit inside the trunk, and hold either two 10" or 12" subs (depending on the mounting depth of the subs, the mounting depth must be below 6.5" mounting depth), be sure to check before you buy the subwoofers or before you start building this box.

Caution: I have been building boxes now for 5 years. This install can be done by anyone with experience with a table saw, and buliding with wood / MDF / Particle Board. Also, if you do not have experience with Car Audio, have a Certified Technician do the sub/amp install.

Parts needed:
(1) 66" x 36" ~ 3/4" MDF (at Home Depot lumber section, etc.)
(50) wood screws

(1) Container of wood glue
(1) Counter-sinker (to inset the woodscrews in the box for a cleaner look)
(1) Tube of wood silicone
Contact Adhesive
66" x 36" piece of carpet or vinyl of your choice to cover box with after completion of build

Tools needed:
Table Saw
Router with "Circle Maker" or Jig Saw
drill bit (to pre-drill holes for each screw, make sure it works with the screws)
Power Drill
Caulk Gun

Step 1: After all items are bought and ready, you want to first draw out each side of the box before cutting to make sure all pieces work on the MDF board. 66" x 36" will be enough if done right.

1A: Box dimensions: (Length x Width)
Front: 33" x 16.5"
Bottom: 33" x 9" (Outside Width)
Back: 33" x 17 3/8" (Outside Width)
Top: 33" x 4.25" (Outside Width)
(2) Sides: Top: 6", Front: 16.5", Bottom: 10.5", Back: 17 3/8"

As you can see the box is angled with the subs to be mounted on the Front 33" x 16.5". If done right, the box will aline with the angle in the front of your trunk, to make for more trunk space.

Step 2: Now that all sides of the box are drawn onto the piece of MDF, bring out the Table Saw, and make your cuts. **When making the top, back and bottom, one of the cuts per piece requires you to cut at an angle for the back to fit correctly, but be sure that the lengths after the cuts match the above measurements. The following cuts must be made:

Top: Angle the table saw to 107 degrees.
Bottom: Angle the table saw to 73 degrees.
Back: Top cut angle the Table saw to 107 degrees, and the bottom angle to 73 degrees.

Step Three: Pre-drill holes for screws in each side of the box. When drilling, the front, sides, and back are the only sides that get screws. Start pre-drilling at least 3/8" from the outside diameter, and not to drill holes into the corners of the box, stay within 1" of the corner so as not to damage to MDF. MDF is very strong, yet when drilling close to the edge, it can split easily.

Step 4: Start by placing two of the sides together, i.e. the top and front, bottom an front; using first the wood glue and then the wood screws, making sure that they are even and square. Put the top, bottom, back, and front together, then place the sides on. Clean any excess glue off.

Step 5: Templates should be given with each sub; but if not, look for the mounting diameter of your subs. The mounting diameter is the size of hole you will make, it can usually be found anywhere on the internet, or calling the subwoofer's manufacturer. When making the circle cut-outs be sure that they are at least 1" above the bottom of the box, because you have 3/4" MDF and you do not want to cut into another side of your enclosure. Be sure to start by drawing the circles on center them as well as calculating the mounting depth, also found from the manufacturer of the sub. After you have double and triple checked the location of the holes for spacing and depth, cut them out either using a router or jig saw.

Step 6: When holes are cut out, use wood silicone around all seams inside the box, this will help make this a better sealed box. Also drill out a single hole, whatever location is desired by builder,(usually the back angled side is best) for speaker wire for each sub. Run speaker wire through hole, and use silicone to plug up the rest of the hole.

Step 7: Allow wood glue and silicone to dry for at least 24-48 hours before applying carpet, vinyl, or paint.

Step 8: Cover box with chosen carpet, vinyl, or paint before installing subwoofers. Allow chosen material to dry for at least 24-48 hours.

Step 9: Install sub woofers. First, pre-drill holes and hook speaker wire to subwoofers before screwing the subwoofers in. You are finished, and can now hook your new box up to an external amp.
