How to package a head for shipping


What you will need is a stout box, appox 2 inches wider, longer, and about 4 inches taller.
A roll of packing tape, and a plastic bag or tow.
Tall kitchen trash bags work well.
Newspaper

** Tech tip** remove any odd parts such as cam gears or thermostat housing.

Also have an extra box or piece of cardboard.

First thing is to place the head in the plastic bag, if you use the kitchen trash bag, use 2.

Out of the extra cardboard, cut 2 pieces that will cover the surface of the head, and still fit inside the shipping box.

Now with the packing tape, make 2 rounds over the cardboard.

Do this at both ends.

Now get the shipping box, and wad up one or two sheets of newspaper and put about 2 inches of newspaper across the bottom of the box.

I am placing the head in the box, combustion chamber side up.
This is done to help reduce the chance of a bent valve from shipping.

Now any small parts may be added to the box.
I taped the cam gears to the cardboard

Now firmly pack wadded newspaper around the head.

** Do NOT use packing peanuts**

Now the shipping box is ready to be closed up and taped shut.

The same method that was used to tape the cardboard will be used here, go 5 or 6 full rounds.

Now the box is ready for a shipping label.

Just adding to this a little bit-- that's mine and it came to me exactly as it was packaged!
